Hello, I had an idea pop into my head today. I pulled up to the store to pick up some parts, and saw what I first thought was a gs500e. Then I noticed the exhaust header...4 pipes. It was a gs550e. I immediately started studying it, and dreaming. Just by the naked eye, the frames look oddly similar. Does anybody know if a gs550e engine can be put on a 500 frame?
In a word: yes. But it depends on how much time and money you have to put into it. Biggest thing would be the sprocket alignment.
That's a lot of work for an older engine and 50 more cc's.
Not a direct swap, but with enough money you can make a clay brick fly like a bird.
Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure how different the motor was in terms of power or anything. I just think it would be so amazing to have a 4cyl on such a light bike. Would love to double my HP.
The GS500 in stock trim isn't significantly lighter than a 600, but is absolutely under-framed, and under suspended to handle the weight and power. A modern 600 is technologically superior in pretty much every way.
(According to Suzuki, the new GSX-R 600 is actually lighter than a GS500F.)
Enjoy the GS500 for what it is.
