Having no storage on my bike is killing me. Tank bags look like the way to go on the gs.
Anybody have a tank bag they recommend?
Dont know what you are after specifically (size, style etc) But I have this one and so far Im happy. Ive done 2 weekend trips with it so far and it was great, a good bit of storage and features, magnets are good and strong, easy to remove and "backpack" when off the bike. All in all satisfied and would recommend it. I paid $70 bucks for it.

I've got some Nelson-Rigg tank bag and saddle bags. They are available in several styles and sizes and very flexible mounting system.
I have a 15 liter Engage XL. It's clips to the gas cap ring on the tank with a quick disconnect adapter. I have the GPS adapter and map pocket with mine too but they're not on in this photo.

My recommendation for a small tank bag is the Joe Rocket Manta XL. Small enough that I don't even know it is there when riding, but big enough for my winter gloves, phone, face shield, ID badge, safety glasses, earplugs, etc.
I'm looking for something that'll hold my phone, wallet, keys, body wash, deodorant, and atleast 2 pairs of clothes for a weekend trip.
Anything else I take will be strapped down to the back seat.
motorcycle-superstore has two tank bags (strap mounted, thats all that's left) right now for $39.99 (US) on closeout. I ordered the eiffel 2 system. It's absolutely huge, I haven't used it yet, as it just came in today, but it will definitely serve its purpose.

The contour looks better, but I plan on taking trips with my wife, so I went for more space. The eiffel 2 has two bags, so if you're riding solo, you can opt for the smaller bag, as they both mount to the base just the same.
Ok. Not large enough for Two changes of clothes, but it is what I use for day trips (I use a Ventura bag and rack on my GS500 and have hard luggage on my 919 for better storage). A sport tank bag from Motordry. I love it...

I'm currently using a Motopak GT17 magnetic tankbag (http://motopakluggage.com/gt17.html) which works pretty good. However I've also got a Nelson Rigg CL-1030 (http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl1030_touring_tank_tail_bag.html) along with the MAG-MT-10 Magnetic Mounting Kit that's available for sale if you're interested. It's in fine shape, but it was a warranty replacement for the previous version, and after receiving the new one, it turns out I liked the older version better.

I use something similar to this from motodry, magnetic + clip on. Only difference mine is in two sections, the main backpack which literally unzips and becomes a backpack (looks exactly like pictured), and the small lower portion (about 2" high which is stuck to the bike)
Also comes with a cute little rain-coat :thumb:
Ditto. The one I use (pictured) has an inbuilt rain coat. Just unzip its hiding spot, pull it out and drape it over the lot. Pull the cord to tighten and you're all good to go. :thumb:

I use a smaller tank bag that covers basics of non-weekend trips (holds rain liner, water bottle, phone, wallet, keys, purse) or it'll hold phone, wallet & whole rain suit.
For weekend trips I add a seat bag. I have one that has built-in bungies that are the perfect length and has paint protectors, and expands to way bigger than I need (useful in case I buy something). But compact size is perfect for weekends. Other than weekend trips, it's useful as a gym bag because it has handles, and separate compartments for dirty gym clothes. But for basic commuting or rides, it's way more than I need so tank bag is plenty.

I used to use a backpack but as soon as I started using the tankbag I felt my corners improving day by day as I didn't have the restriction on my shoulders, it's one of the better investments I purchased for my bike - and it only cost $50aud or there about.
I've seen a few other Oxford bags tank bags/tail bags which have turned a dark brown colour from I'm guessing being in the rain. Mine hasn't got any holes or anything.
If you can keep a piece of cloth in the tankbag and just give it a wipe down every few days otherwise the magnets may scratch the paintwork I've read - hasn't happened to me yet.
I use a Fieldsheer Eiffel 2 that I got from MotorcycleSuperstore for a song... $39 on closeout is an incredible deal for this bag. It's actually 3 bags in one. The large and small bags zip together for a giant bag, or you can use each bag individually. I use the small bag for day to day commuting, and the larger bag for trips. The larger bag has straps to turn it into a backpack.
Some people whine about the strap mount, but it really wasn't very hard to fit, and it stays put. Unless your'e anal about it never moving 1 mm, it will do fine. I don't load it up with super heavy things, but it has hardly shifted in my riding.
The only downside to this bag is the base is quite large...it actually hangs a bit off the tank on either side. I have risers & backs on my handle bars, and at full lock it just touches the bag. In general riding I've never had any problems though.
The larger bag should hold what you want easily--as long as your 2 changes of clothes aren't wool sweaters or something. Shoot, even then that might work. I put a patch kit, tiny hand pump, pack of earplugs, Leatherman, 2 plastic boxes of w/ electronics cords/cables/adapters and contact lens stuff, and a pair of pants for work in it when I commute. That's the small bag.
