Title: New front pegs installed....LOVE THEM!
Post by: fraze11 on July 18, 2011, 04:52:17 PM
Wow!  I encourage anyone with 20 bucks and 20 min to get and install these pegs!  (assuming you hold the same disdain I did for the stock pegs).  Just finished installing them tonight, and went for a 30min ride.  I was pleasantly suprised, they felt GREAT!  If you were ever thinking about doing this stop thinking and get doing, these look and perform amazing.

Heres a few pics; (i didnt post any install pics, the wiki on this is very thorough and I followed it to a T)
This is them if you're interested; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390329143186

Those look excellent.  This is definitely on my list of mods for the future after I get a few bucks saved up.  Did you do the rears as well?

They look too short to me. I frequently stand on the pegs when I'm navigating crappy road conditions or bumps.

I find the stock pegs performance to be amazing, at least, my feet don't fall off them. What else can a peg possibly do?

+1

But they'll also shave 100grams off of the weight and the bike can go quicker accordingly.

Thanks.  I did buy new rears as well (and removed stock rears) but haven't gotten around to installing them yet (and I rarely have a passenger anyway).  They grip incredibly well, in fact as well as the stocks in my opinion.  Foot doesnt slide/move at all.  I found on several occasions the stock fatty rubber ones would grab or catch my foot if I was getting back on the peg/taking off etc because of the million tonnes of rubber they have on them ... Its funny, I would have thought these wouldn't be comfortable but they are.  Length is great too, no issues at all standing etc.  Its of course a personal preference doing something like this but even if you don't like it you didnt exactly mortgage your house for them either ;)

Very nice! I'd seen it in the FAQ but haven't done it myself. Looks like an easy upgrade.

they looks really good, would like to see a photo of yer foot on the peg!

i've been considering picking up a set, but since i don't have the parents garage all the time now. i find myself bangin my shins on the pegs getting the bike in/out the door to my little shop room.

kind of thread jacking... but anyone know of aftermarket pegs that still have some rubber coating for shin protection?

I put the GSXR pegs on mine a few months ago and haven't looked back. They add about 3/4" of leg room, a plus for taller riders. The bolt on mine kept coming loose so that they would keep turning upside down while riding. I used some threadlock on the bolts and it hasn't happened since.

I have a similar peg on my 'other' bike and they are great.  The stock GS' pegs are some of the ugliest I've ever seen.  I think your bike looks much better with the new pegs!  Smokin'!! :rstar: :rstar: :rstar:

ordered!

yours really do look great, and thanks for the extra photos. compared side by side with stockers i thought they didn't look wide enough for a foot, but with the boot shots they look perfect!

Heres my post on the signals I installed;

I got them from a web store called luckybike;  You can get them in a 23w halogen or LEDs, I went bulb, I dont know enough about LED's and at a minimum I know that when a bulb blows you can replace it.  I dont know how LEDs work?  :dunno_black:

They really are comfortable and the more I ride the more I like them.  The real  kicker for me was when I rode my buddy's GSXR600 for a weekend, his stock pegs are similar and I couldnt get over how damn comfortable they were.

Get longer bolts. The bolts those ship with are fairly short and stop in the smaller diameter section of the bracket that are inside of the actual pegs. The brackets are threaded all the way through the larger section and a longer bolt will give it more strength. I broke one of those cast brackets where the bracket gets larger and used a longer bolt to keep it together until I just recently replaced these pegs with the LSL pegs another member posted that are made for the GS but about 3 times the price.

I received mine in the other day and they are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the originals and I don't think they are going to work on the rear at all.  I paid less the $20 shipped for two sets off of fleabay and I'm considering just sticking with the originals.

they're definitely smaller than the stockers, but i've got a smaller foot and i don't move much on the pegs so i think i'll be ok.

check the wiki page for rear peg installation instructions:

Just wanted to post some info for those who want to install these on the rears as well.  The wiki is ok on this, but its definately a little more work than the fronts.  In addition to grinding down the round part of the peg base on both sides, you have to drill the hole in the rear peg braket on the bike in the EXACT right spot or the peg will fold too far forward when open. I recommend placing the peg on the OUTSIDE of the bracket on the top in the open position to mark your drillpoint.  I ended up using a stainless steel nut and bolt and I threaded the nut onto the bolt all the way to the top tight and the bolt runs the length of the inside of the bracket (now that I know that works Im going to remove them and paint them flat black so they blend in).  Makes for a good solid "stopper" for when the peg folds down.  You still need the washers on there like the fronts to close the gap.  And if you are like me you may be wondering how the peg stays up when not in use...Once everything is in place when you push the peg up it gets tight to the inside and holds nicely.  I dont know if that was luck or what or what ...but it holds as tight as the stock rear pegs when not in use.  Looks good now with 4 matching pegs.

I've got these on Flick had 'em about 3 years now. They hold up very well. My biggest gripe is if I'm backing out of a parking spot or trying to maneuver the bike I occasionally will jam the left peg into my calf. At least once a month I get a nice size bruise on my calf. My doctor saw it once and she thought it was another blood clot and flipped out. A krap load of tests later she finally believed it was just me bein goofy.

got the front pegs installed, but i need to get a different washer setup for a tighter fit. passenger pegs yet to be installed.

two days on them so far, and really like the feel. haven't notice any new vibrations. i've ridden a bit of everything on them; county roads, interstate, and the twisties. they're a little loose with the washers i have in now, but once tighten up they'll be perfect. well worth 20 bucks!

after looking yer photos again fraze, i feel like i'm neglecting cleaning my bike haha. for now its installation and modification, i'll try to squeeze in some cleaning when all the parts get in the paint booth. until then dirty photos:

took the pegs apart to see if this was the case. sure enough, the supplied screw stops short of the end of threads . i'll report back when i find the type of bolts used

Are you saying that because you've ridden with them?  I only ask because I *just* got home from a 1100km trip and I find those pegs amazingly comfortable.  Aside from being big and ugly I always found the stock pegs uncomfortably awkward.  Just sayin is all...

i do feel some vibs after focusing more on the pegs. this on my usually route of 45 min each way with a bit of everything. riding the interstate @ 80mph there's a bit of a buzz. i only ride short spurts on the interstate tho, getting from mountain to mountain. everywhere else i didn't notice at all.

these have great grip and fit my foot perfectly. i have gotten off the bike every time since i put the pegs on and felt great. no unusual discomfort at all, and this is with tennis shoes.

will report back after i get some longer rides

Vibrations.....if you say they don't vibrate more than the OEM's...your kidding yourself, say what you will , I have been around MC's for over 5 decades, I know the answer already.

EDIT: Whats a Km? (683.508311 miles) <<sorry I just had to

You will probably find there is a certain RPM where you really feel them, if for any reason you don't hit that RPM.....then you may actually have a win win situation on your hands

I actually never said they did or didnt vibrate, I simply said I think they are incredibly comfortable and I like them alot.

"Whats a Km?" Its a unit of length in the metric system, the official system of measurement used in every country in the world but three.  I'm suprised in your "over 5 decades" you've never heard of it... Sorry, I just had to.
