so if and when i get my gs, hopefully this weekend..
what mods are the biggest bang for my buck when i wanna put alittle more umph into it...
heres my idea, once i get the gs i wont be able to afford another bike for possibly 2 years so after the 1st year id like to know if ill be able to make it a bit peppier as to hold of my thirst until i can afford it :P
maybe im thinking to far in advance but i got nothing better to do anyways so if you got ideas or suggestions im all ears
Most folks will tell you to rejet first. Jets are cheap if you are able to install them yourselves. After that, if you want performance you might focus on the exhaust... which actually brings up a good question for the experts... how do opening the exhaust up and rejetting the carbs effect one another?
anyway, after that, go nuts.. the front forks are crazy mushy and frequently bottom out, so progressive springs are a good mod that's not too expensive.
and cuttin' off the fender costs nothing if you have access to a dremmel tool :thumb:
personally, my problem isn't deciding on or financing the mods, but assembling the tools I need. I'm still trying to assemble all the proper equipment to tear the bike apart. Good tools cost $$$
do you know what's been done to the bike you are gonna buy?
its possible some of this has already been taken care of by the previous owner(s)
peace
What he said and,
Dropping a tooth in the front sprocket.
Adding K/N pod filters.
if you've got your sights on another bike (possibly) in a couple of years I wouldn't invest too much in the gs. You wont make any of it back so be very specific about getting something significant for your buck...and improving your bike while you do have it.
1)suspension upgrades (get progressive fork springs right off the bat), worry about rear later.
2)put enough miles on it to need tires sooner than later and upgrade to better tires than the rocks it comes with stock.
3)get good gear! this you can take with you to the next bike
4)rejet if they're still stock. will cure the cold bloodedness of the bike and make it run a little better overall.
5)15t front sprocket (thats a 1 t drop from stock) for a cheap way to get better acceleration-at the expense of slightly higher rpm's at highway speeds (about 500rpm higher at 65 in 6th)
Thats all you really need. the rest comes at higher costs with less bang for buck.
IMO
first, and formost, spend the 60$ on preogressive fork springs, this has to be the single best mod for the $ on the entire bike. next would be jetting/k&n filters and aftermarket exhaust, jets are cheap, and enough of us here have completed that area to informyou. the exhaust will cost, you can get away with cutting off your can and purchasing a used slip on can in the area of 20$ or so the k&n filter will be about 30$. Then there is the rear shock, talk to srinath about that as he might have a source for 20-40$ lets see, then would be Tires and thats about it as simple performance mods go.
