It looks like it's going to take a little while to rebuild the non running 89 I bought so I scraped up all my pennies and bought one I could ride in the meantime. It's a 2000. Ed

Why not just take the bars off the '89, put them on the '00, and use the '89 as a parts bike for the '00?

I tried that once. Never did use it for parts. GS500's are addictive. That's why I have Junior all fixed up - he (it) was going to be my "learning to repair things" bike. Never happened once he became so darned cute.
So then I bought Trey - with the same idea. Well, now I have designs on Trey so I'll need a 4th one for a parts/learning bike. Good thing I'm building a bike cave so they have a home.
With all the bikes you've got now can your next one really count as a "learning" bike at all? Seems to me you'd have these GS500s all figured out.
oh nice, looks to be in good condition. although lots of things look good compared to a seized piston :D
That bike looks very similar to mine...congrats!!!
Nice!
It is to shiny... I want another one now that isn't a rust bucket.
2000's are the fastest :D

Welp,you're screwed.
That's right. You have the flu and it may take decades to get over the GS500 flu. It's an illness I tell ya.A d@mn nasty one.I tried one just to test the waters. I fell in,and caught the GS500 flu soon after and bought three more.People only shake the illness after they either go broke or finally put their foot down and decide to move on.Some never completely recover. They keep a GS500 around to remind them of better days when there was nothing but the GS500 flu.
There is one other way that I have seen to shake the GS500 flu.It took one of our greatest members away a year or two ago. That was a really good girlfriend.Dgyver will be missed. He was (is) my friend and wrenching buddy.Poor guy.Never saw her coming until it was too late. :D
