For Verizon DSL. I know, cable is faster blah blah.
I have the cheapest cable package available through Charter and I got 1228 down/117 up on that page.

cable may be faster but it is subject to usage, speed changing depending on how many people are on and where you are relative to the origin of the cable service. At my old office we had speed that was slightly better than T1 because of where we were. But we could see the speed change noticably aroudn 6pm when others in the area started getting on.
I'll check my speed when I get home...or son as I can now that I'm curious. All I have to say is that it is noticably much faster and that's all that matters to me.
There are very few people on cable in my area so I get great speed. DSL has an advantage though; much faster upload speed. In some ways I think I would prefer slower(not that DSL is slow) download and faster upload.
I see 4000 post soon :D
DSL is not offered in my area at all. Even if it were, I live too far in the country to make use of it. It has a limited range from it's splitter or whatever it is called.
I am about 40 minutes from our Charter's office in Slidell, LA. Still get good speeds.
testing from across the states coast to coast

Granted, the network I am on is fairly idle about now (1am), but it doesn't dip too bad until my neighbour starts downloading ISOs but even then its barely noticeable.

I can live with 3301 kbps down and 236 kbps up from a cable provider.
How pervasive is cable and DSL down in the states? I have a friend that moved down to Utah and he had to wait a year before they offered the service in his area.
It seems like the Germans just luv the broadband and filesharing in general. Here in Canada it seems like anyone who has a PC that is even a P1 will have cable or DSL.
Oh here's my test. Shaw cable
