Title: Blinc m2 intercom, fm radio, bluetooth mp3 and call system
Post by: Therefore on July 27, 2011, 05:07:54 AM
Hey all I just bought one of these last night and I was wondering if anyone uses one? If not what do you use? I gues if you have a blinc or other systen can you  listen to the same music/ radio in different helmets? How about cross platform compatibility? Just wondering.

I have the BLINC system that came pre-installed on my Element Fastrack helmet. It works good with my blackberry. Calls are clear and the person on the other end never complains of wind noise, just that I sound a bit muffled. Music sounds OK, but obviously, when you're going 70+, don't expect studio quality from any headphone. My only complaint is that there is no function to skip a track or go back to a previous song. I can only adjust volume and initiate/answer calls. So I bought this:

I have it mounted next to the left controls on the handlebars. It works really well and is waterproof.

How well does that work with a touch screen?

I don't know, actually. I've never tried it because I don't have a touchscreen device that will fit in there. Sorry.
My new blackberry I've preordered will arrive next month, and it has a touchscreen. I'll try it and post results.

Cool.Thanks.
I did a little digging and found the seller claims it will work, in fact, their product image on Amazon.com has it with an iPhone inside:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YGGFOW (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YGGFOW)
As well as on their website's product image. It's the SM032:

It seems it should work with touchscreens OK.

Well a quick review:
The blinc unit came in today, and I was very unimpressed. I put in on my helmet and paired it with my iphone4. The mounting was fine, routing the cables was fine, but the mic cable was about an inch short of getting to the center of my helmet. The speakers were just ok. Nothing great that's for sure. Major issues were no voice dial and the FM radio didn't work. I couldn't even get the option. The phone worked alright, but the call only came in on the right side. Also the controls were much less intuitive than I had hoped even after reading the instructions. Final verdict, returned. and I am going to try out the Scala G4, it is supposedly the end all for this kind of thing.

Thanks!

Hey Therefore,
Good quick post.
I just wanted to post a few of my own finding so maybe it might help someone decide to buy one of these or not. Again, I own a helmet that has the BLINC system built-in so I don't know much about the wiring included with yours. However, the mic on my helmet is not directly on the center of my helmet, but rather a little to the left, embedded in the cheek pad. I think this is so you don't sound too loud to the other person? Here's a pic:
I agree, the speakers are OK, but at 70+ MPH, anything louder than the engine and wind noise is good music.  :tongue2:
Also agreed, there is no voice dial, but that didn't bother me too much. I hardly ever initiate calls, I'm usually just answering them so I think it's a preference thing? Also, the phone audio works on both sides with my phone (Blackberry 9700) but with my older Samsung, only one side worked, so I think this may be a limitation of the iPhone? Either way, with my samsung phone, one side audio in calls was no big deal for me, but may be for some.
Lastly, if you didn't have the option for FM, you probably got the M1 BLINC system without it? Did it have an LCD screen or just LEDs?
I have never used an M2 so I can't really say much about that, but other users have posted reviews with concerns about FM reception so I'm sure there's a way to get it in that mode.
Anyway, I hope this thread helps others trying to find a way to break free from corded headphones under their helmets  8)
