When Im driving my car I always give respect and distance to biker, no matter the type, even the ones that are squidly. However this past weekend I found one that really deserved a pavement nap...
I was driving up the Northway (I-87) in NY toward Saratoga last weekend to watch some horses run in circles. I was in the middle lane and came upon a slow car. I check to my left, see a bike in the left lane that was a good distance back, so I wasnt cutting him off by any reasonable means. I move over and accelerate and continue on. I was going about 75-78 (speed limit 65) so I wasnt going slow. Apparently this guy on a Gold Wing was coming up a lot faster then I though and clearly going over 80. He gets right on my bumper and then passes me to the right as soon as he gets a chance. Its some big dude, "brain bucket" helmet, short sleeves, shorts, leather "MC club" vest, handlebar mustache. Oh, and hes trailering a jet ski!!!! He pulls up to my front right quarter panel so he can see me through my wind shield and proceeded to yell at me, giving me all sorts of hand gestures like "can you see me" and the classic "bird." Clearly flipping out and wanting me to know it. I just smiled big and gave him the "peace" sign which I could tell aggravated him until he took off. He then weaved through traffic with this jet ski sliding around behind him looking it will let loose or flip over any second, cutting other drivers off left and right........
I had to hold back so much not to jerk the wheel and scare the shaZam! out of him!!! I respect all bikers, even some that might not deserve it, but he crossed the line. If I saw a news segment about a bikerer that met his maker on the Northway who was towing a jet ski later that day, I would have smiled knowing justice is alive and well. To hell with him.
POV is a wonderful thing.
To you, he was speeding faster than your speeding and he took you by surprise.
To him, if you'd been paying more attention you would have seen him approaching from a long way back, known he was going Much faster than you, and let him by Before waiting at the last minute to Cut Him Off. He could not see how fast you were gaining on the car in front so it looked like you were happy to follow Until he arrived at which point, out you come.
In such instances, maybe a sorry gesture works. It certainly diminishes their anger. Doesn't matter who is right/wrong. Hard to stay enraged at a person giving the gesture and mouthing sorry.

Of course, feel free to demand your right of passage, tell him to fark orf and flip him the bird if you want. Sure it'll make him more angry, but your POV says your right so to hell with him...

I see what your getting at Mister. The truth is it took him 4-5 seconds to get up behind me, meaning I didn't cut him off. Maybe in his eyes he feels he needs a huuuuge space for comfort. However, his actions of weaving through cars and cutting other people off did not show this, he was just an ass on a mission of going as fast as possible and I was the responsible driver in his way. I try to see others POV but his yelling at me (pointless on a bike, moron) and waving his arms at me for minute showed I could never understand his level of stupidity. So therefore he deserves nothing from me. Had he not continued to drive like an idiot, I would not feel this way.
Yes i was following this fool on his z1000 - he was the parts manager @ the local dealer. Man was I arguing with him often ... one day I came up behind him on his z1000 ... OK OK dont get your panties in a bunch, I didn't actually run him off the road.
Cool.
buddha.

First clue. . .
He was pissed at you (and your cage). He should know: Never get upset at what a cage does. They are simply not in tune with any motorcycle. It's a proven fact. It is totally up to the motorcyclist to control the traffic situation.
If he does not know that motorcycles are invisible to automobiles, he's not gonna' live much longer anyway. Don't sweat it.
Thanks for posting your story.
It's good to vent. :thumb:
