Hi folks,
Recently acquired a 2006 GS500f. Say hi if you're in the area too! :)
im out in fullerton. hit me up if u need any help or for a ride.
Excellent!
Found any interesting stretches to ride, that are closer than malibu? :)
Even really short bits are interesting to me at this point... everything is so freakin gridded around here :(
been mostly commuting but the best places ive been to so far are azusa canyon and of course the pch along the beachs. just got back from a nice trip out to parker dam and the road next to the river are fun and beautiful.
Parker dam! well that's.. a trip :D
Which beach stretches did you have in mind?
Are you just talking about "nice view"?
Mostly, seems like pch is fairly straight down here. (or inland!)
Not like northern california :)
I'm pretty squarely in long beach, btw. I just put "LA" in the subject, for more widespread name recognition :-}
azusa canyon was the best ride. pch just feels good haha. but if your in long beach your probly fairly use to it. ive been thinkin about another trip up azusa canyon or just heading out to big bear. mountain roads seem to be the best. especially in summer.
I'm in Santa Ana... Oracle, his buddy and I are probably getting together for a wrench sesh on Sunday in Fullerton. Come out!
I am new to riding, the GS500F, and the forum. I am in the Victorville area(high desert). I'd be down for meets and rides but I have to get the confidence to ride on the highway over the pass first!
Oooo, that's a ways!
Yeah, definitely take your time before getting on the freeway.
When you work up to it, definitely say howdy though :)
I am in Hollywood, I don't have a GS anymore, but lots of parts for sale if you guys need anything ;)
I am up for any rides you guys do. I went up to Glendora Mountain Road on the weekend, probably hit Malibu and the Rock Store this weekend.
Here are some pics from the weekend..

No-hooooouuwww... I just bought a bunch stuff after my crash :(
unless you happen to still have fairings? :D
Oh hey your name is familiar, are you on any of the Meetup groups?
Im in Norwalk. I just recently got a 2004 GS500...freaking awesome girl, Adri Marie. Definitly hit me up. Gonna ride GMR in the morning..meeting with a group off the 210/Azusa at the Shell gas station. If not message anytime for planned rides ahead of time.
Hey everybody! I'm a new rider in Mission Viejo, CA. I just got admin approval for the forums today. I've had my GS500 for almost two months now, it's my daily ride. Before this bike, I had no wrenching experience at all, but with my Haynes manual and a few new tools I've taken on a lot of previously scary sounding jobs without a problem and I'm hungry for more.
My bike is ridable, but still has a few issues I'm working through. Seems like I'm spending a lot of time waiting for parts or tools to come in the mail, haha. Next up for me is a valve adjustment, then sync/tune/make happy the carbs, cause they're not happy right now. I may have a vacuum leak too, which had been hard for me to diagnose the conventional way with an engine that wont keep steady idle.
I'd love to meet some new motorcycle buddies to ride and wrench with. Oracle, kidsixteen, you guys are really close. Getting together soon?
Im looking to do a valve adjustment soon too. Maybe we can do two at the same time?
we've been lagging on a socal meetup for a while now.
I have a place in Downtown LA and a few gs500s that always need working on. I'm way down for a wrench and ride day soon!
anybody wanna help swap my spare motor in so I can start my hot rod motor build on the old one?
I'm in the San Fernando valley currently! I work in Chatsworth live in Valencia area.
I'd like to go for a ride this weekend, hopefully.
People up for a medium intensity canyon ride or something?
I'm starting from the long beach area
I'm new to the good routes, so I'm not the best person to choose one. Ideally, it would be nice to have a route that is known to be usually "clean", rather than one prone to lots of rockfalls.
technically, the long beach motorcycle show is on this weekend. but I'd rather go RIDING bikes, than looking at them :)
We're heading back home this weekend plus my bike is in storage due to a theft attempt. But if you guys ever have a meet up ill definately swing by and chat! I am hoping to have a new living situation figured out by mid January (one with a garage or more secured parking) and I can bring my TL back. I miss her :(.
gonna be swapping mtotors in one of my GS's on Saturday and might go ride w/ Phil and some others on Sunday if anyone wants to join for either.
DRAT! probably cant make it tomorrow after all.
My bike is being held captive, by a broken garage door
Hey, I just bought by first bike, a '97 GS500E. I'm feeling pretty comfortable riding, although I'm not quite ready for the freeways, but I'd be interested in meeting for a wrench session. I've got a lot of questions about basic maintenance and detailing even, and it's been tough to sort through all the information.
I'm in Orange County and am free on the weekends.
Anyone willing to help a girl out?
Haha yea we definately have been lagging on a meeting. Hit me up if u guys are down for a ride or need help wrenching. Shay if u need help don't be afraid to ask. I'm in Fullerton. Did anyone else toto the long beach convention this weekend?
I was there on Sunday. Definitely some cool stuff. Wish I'd had the balls to ride my bike there.
Me and my friends went on friday. Lots to look at plus some really good deals. I picked up a new hjc helmet for 80 bucks.
Just got approved for the forum. I live in Long Beach and Ive been riding my 07 GS 500F for almost 2 years now. I'm up for rides wrenching or anything.
Awesome! I should probably be free to ride a bit NEXT weekend. Who's up for it? :)
(feb 4th/5th)
Hey I read they're threatening to shut down hwy39 an such due to arguing over which agency pays for the maint on it.
Sounds like a reason to try it out this saturday morning :)
feb 4th
Meet in Azusa, somewhere, then have a leisurely ride up and down the thing?
Ive never ridden it, so I'll be going somewhat cautiously. (I hope! Please dont egg me on or anything :)
Who's interested?
I should be free I'm up for it....
That sounds like a good time to me. I did that road last year in my miata and then we headed over to baldy. I'll have to check with my cousin, but I think we took E fork to Glendora Ridge to Glendora mtn. 39 is nice and open and then the ridge road gets pretty tight. If you guys go on Saturday I'd like to join in. My front end is still in pieces but with a little luck everything should come together tomorrow and then I'll be ready to ride.

Excellent!
So, I'm suggesting meeting at the arco right by the intersection of the 210 and 39, at 9am.
For google map purposes, 100 North Azusa Avenue, Azusa, CA
BTW: by the look of the map, this is the "kinder gentler" cousin to the ridge road :) It goes to crystal lake. it gets pretty tight near the end. but doesnt look as continually extreme as the ridge road
Additional info... there will probably be some other non-gs riders joining us
(Sacrilege! Yeah sorry... but it could be fun anyway :) )

Kinda surprising, given that it's short notice, but there ya are. Meetup has about a 50% turnout rate, so figure only 1 or 2 other folks will turn up :embarrassed:
So how was the ride?
Sorry, I missed out. While my bike was up and running this weekend, it wasn't running smoothly enough to take on a real ride. I pulled the carbs tonight and sure enough, they aren't the clean carbs that the PO described. I doubt he was intentionally trying to mislead me, but rather just didn't know how quickly gas can turn to crap, or, how to prevent gas from turning to crap. I've got a rebuild kit coming in tomorrow, so with any luck I'll finally be up and running FOR REAL soon.

Ride was good! The cafe wasnt quite where I was expecting..and didnt have as much variety as I was hoping for :(
But the location was "choice" ;) I wanna go back there when I have more time to just sit there and breathe
Unfortunately, I had to leave early, but RiderX came along. He can give the extended report :)
