Title: Can't handle the pain anymore
Post by: zkbuck on August 11, 2011, 06:53:20 AM
ok so here is the scoop, 2 months ago my bike (Amanda) was idoling at about 5K so i took it into the only motorcycle shop within 50 miles which was a honda shop. The honda shop told me that they would not help me because Amanda is too heavely modifyed the only modifications were the Yoshi exaust and the K&N lunch box, and of course the re-jet to go with it, but anyways I hade to figure out the problem on my own with a friend that has been working on all sorts of bikes for years. so we took the carbs apart and cleand them, Main and pilot were pluged, and I also had the Fantastic idea to fix the seals were the engine was leaking (i should be aloud to have ideas) so i bought the seal kit, and got to work pulling the engine, in the process I broke off the one plug wire to the coil pack and also had to cut the chain off and buy a new one. After getting the side covers off I had to get Amand's Top end off and the side covers (no issues here) after getting everything off and the 2 days of scrapeing gaskets off i thought i was almost done! Untill last week, I was putting the clutch cover back on and the timing chain ajusting bolt broke, next step is to drill out the bolt and use an extracter to get it out. well I managed to break the drill bit off inside the bolt, so I went and bought a die grinder and got the drill out but the hole was too big for the extracters I had, so final step in theis headach was to go buy a new set (cant just buy one extractor :2guns:) and wouldent you know it, it worked great! That is untill I broke off the Pressure Hardened Steep extrator inside the bolt... now there is no way to get that bolt out so i need a new cam, and i am going to give the engine to my friend and pay him $200 to install the new $100 cam so I cant brak anything anymore.  :dunno_white:

Everybody does this my friend.  Don't give up, keep at it.  You'll develop the 'feel' for how much you need to torque bolts.  A not so wise guy once told me, 'torque wrenches are to keep people from putting too much a** into what they are doing.'  It does szuck trying to get broken extractors out though.  pita

Adding up how much $$ you put into it after you buy it doesn't count. That's what I keep telling myself. Also... if you could snap a bolt on your current bike, you'll snap bolts on any bike, until you stop doing that.

Very true, I'm haveing my buddy fix it anyways (it'll get done faster that way + When he goes back to shool I wont have a garage to work in anymore) and if it gets sold it gets sold, if not I guess i have it for another year
