Post by: paui on November 22, 2003, 12:01:08 AM
when the gs500e pops into your head, what dollar figure pops into your head?
for example....
2001 kawasaki ex250 ninja 5,000 miles BAM! ~$2200
(this is only an example....this is all opinionated after all)

I think everyone's going to reply with a range that covers what they paid for their GS500.

That said, I'll say $1500-$2000, since I paid $1850 for mine.

And the longer I own it, the more I realise I basically stole it.

How's this for range:  $800 -$ 2000.  A lot depends on year and condition.  I think nearer $1000 for bikes close to model year 1990 and nearer to $2000 for bikes closer to model year 2000.  Also depends on modifications, location and time of year.

The cheapest new bike you can buy.

That's why I bought it.

$0. Need a year, mileage and condition first. No different than any other vehicle. The exception being any year Yugo, which WOULD be $0!

Initial cost is an X-factor... depends on year and condition... then....

$100 annually for valve checks, carb synchs and misc engine maintenance (i'm not skilled enough to get into the engive)
$ 75 annually for insurance
$ 50 annually for oil changes (I do them myself - oil n filter about 3 times a year)
$100 annually for tires and/or whatever else has to be done to pass inspection.
$??? for MODS!!!! You can't own a GS and not do anything to it!!! that would be crazy! :?   :P    My budget gives me a coupla hundred a year...

so, lets sum up...

when I think "GS" I think $1-2k for the bike and about 500 bucks annually to keep the bike happy, healthy and personalized.   :thumb:

1500-2200

and as far as owning one and not doing anything to it, so far thats me. This is my wifes ride that never gets ridden, so its become a backup for my TLS .

If I could get away with $800 for tires a year id be happy.

Older models $800-$1500, Newer $2000-$2500. They are old tech and not much has changed since their introduction...much like the TL

How much is it worth to you? A bike is worth more than the sum of its parts. '89-94 $500-2600 depending on condition. '95-00 $800-3400 depending on condition. '01-02 easily $1000-3500. '04's are going for 5 bills new.

Not true...almost every bike is worth more in parts than whole.

Of course, that assumes that you can sell all the parts.  I mean, how how high is the demand for a GS500 swingarm?

You'd be surprised what racers buy.

Exactly... You'd sell a few parts real quick, like in under a week. Some more might sell in a month... the rest you take with you to your grave.
Cool.

Hey! According to Kelley Blue Book, you could get a cool $175 trading in a 1991 Yugo.
