I know the left side is the generator and clutch rings, but on the right side there is a hole and something spinning and not sure if it should/needs to be covered....
This I believe is the crankshaft you see spining. notice how it spins quicker when you rev up the engine, and you may even see a bit of oil splashing around
When the engine is running, you shouldn't be able to look down at it and see anything spinning. It definitely needs to be covered.

Hole ... yea that hole suzuki took the metal from that hole and have planted it in the ground. That tree has grown and it grows your ignition coils, that way when you dump the bike the coils get boogered and they make $$$ selling you stuff out of the tree. Its like a $$$$ tree ...
BTW surprisingly, clutch is on the right side, just about by where your right heel would be when you're on the bike. WTF they do put it on the left side with a twig sized rod going left to right in the motor with seals on it etc etc ... that is $$$ tree #2 in this conversation ... you blow that seal around it, or bend the rod ... big $$$ tree.
Cool.
Buddha.
Awesome... anyone have an extra laying around? We pulled the one off my friend's 500f and it was barely taped on.. can't believe that is all that covers somethign that contains oil...

Seriously? The clutch is on the right side?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I had assumed since.. you know the clutch cable and adjustment is over the left side and enters from that side... well...

I believe you are referring to the round pickup cover held on with 3 screws.
there is no oil in there. If there is, you have a seal leaking.
The round thing spinning is the signal generator and rotor. It makes the spark plugs go sparky and all that and the right time.
technically, if you look at a parts diagram you'll find the 2 parts: the round cover and the stick on emblem that covers the hole
11 COVER, CONTACT BREAKER () 11381-01D10 1 $39.02
13 EMBLEM () 68233-01D10 1 $14.58
You can cover the hole with anything - duct tape, factory emblem, whatever.
There is no oil behind it ... there shouldn't be ...
However it does need to protect some important electronics ... I've seen people who had sever issues from craching on that side including where you shear the advancer locator pin off the crank ...
I made some ... last 1 left, $35 shipped in US. Can send outside but cost and time vary ... I will ship it in the 24hrs following $ hitting my paypal.
Cool.

It is just the emblem that i am missing then... i gotta order a new rear brake switch so will just order this at the same time i guess
Why the hell did they leave the hole in the first place?
Buddha, do you have a picture of what your covers look like? And do you only have 'em for the left, or got ones for the right as well? I might be interested if they look alright.
Buddha's Gen covers look great. Better than OEM. Have one on my bike. :thumb:
dont think anyone quite knows why theres a hole... but theres another hole on the bottom to let water out lol! I dropped my bike on both sides and lost both emblems... Go for the older GS emblems they are black and sexier

There is 1 rule with stuff on my bike.. it must have a copious amount of rust in order to fit in! Or be scuffed to hell.. Sleek and sexy just don't match with it.
Ok.. I am confused to hell..
The gen lead wires and the clutch wire are both on the left side, but you are telling me they are actually located on the right side?!?!?!?
What the hell is on the left side then.. my rear brake?!?

Oddly that other hole is on the back side, facing your foot, not on the bottom.
Cool.
Buddha.

My bike is sitting in a friends garage... Rewired the generator and a bunch of other stuff and going to probably rebuild the carbs soon so unable to snap a picture myself...
