I went to B&H in Manhattan today to buy Touchpad and my helmet got dropped on the floor by a clerk in bag check...
There is a 1 inch long crack at the top of the helmet.
I have to get a new helmet and would like your opinion on what to get. I need something comfy because I commute everyday.
It would be nice if the vents actually worked.
My current helmet WAS Icon Mainframe Hooligan and I liked the fit and overall comfort, although the vents didn't seem to do anything. Also there was an issue with fogging even with fog-free shield.
I was told by B&H manager to just buy new helmet and they will reimburse me... It is very tempting to get a nice Shoei helmet but I am a decent person and would feel bad to cheat them therefore I am looking for a helmet for about $250-$300.
I may consider more expensive helmets and I will just cover the difference myself.
So which helmet do you recommend?
PS. They were out of stock on TouchPads when I got to the store... all this trouble for nothing.
No advice on helmet, but
QuoteI may consider more expensive helmets and I will just cover the difference myself.
seems to me quite a deal.
Shoei RF-1100... about $380 new. Probably the best helmet I've ever put on my head. Well worth your $80.
RF-1000's are around $200 (a little more for graphic ones if you're into that) and are awesome also.
Definitely consider those.
This is why i never let anyone move/carry my helmet except me & the gf.
On the plus side, if their reimbursing you.. then its worth buying a slightly better one than you need, and like you said, covering the rest yourself.
I cant recommend any, but i hope they have the tablet in stock when you go back to them.
Try on some Arai's too, I like the Quantums. In the lower range I really dig the flip down sunvisor in my HJC IS-16. :thumb:

With helmets, fit is probably more important than brand/model. Obviously, I'm not going to recommend a KBC even if it fit you like a glove... But, I wouldn't suggest getting too stuck on a brand/model. If it doesn't fit just right, it's better to buy something comparable from a different line.
BTW... Most riders wear a helmet that is too large for them.
I commute everyday and happy with my scorpion exo-1000. It's got a good anti-fog shield. It gets a little haze some times when it reaches it anti-fog limits but still very good. The vents don't do much for me but it has a handy lever that allows you to crack the visor open just enough for air flow to get in. Also has built in sun visor that I use almost every day. A feature that I haven't used in the air pump to fit the helmet tighter. It already fits very snug for me that I hadn't needed it. I got mine on clearance from cyclegear for around $130. But after searching the web just now they are selling for around $200-$300.
You do know HP killed the Touchpad don't you? They don't make it anymore and had a firesale to sell off any in stores.

If you get Shark helmets over there is the States, check em out. :thumb:

Yeah, but you can get more apps for them than you can count.
On the fingers of one hand.
I know that HP discontinued the Touchpad, that's why I want it? You get dual core tablet with 1GB of RAM for $99. Soon there will be Android port.
With that being said, anybody wants to sell me theirs? Either 16 GB or 32GB.
A helmet that cannot withstand a small fall and gets a crack in it from such would completely crumble under a heavy impact. Please tell us what this helmet was so we can make sure we avoid it.

I don't think we get them here in Oz. Maybe because of this reason.

I read a lot of great things about Sharks when I was recently looking for a new helmet but couldn't find enough locally to get a good feel for the fit of the model I wanted. I got a Scorpion EXO-500, the update to the 1000. I'm very happy with it.

Claims to exceed Snell which is surprising if it just cracked from a short fall.. My Scorpion EXO-400 fell off the back of my bike onto concrete and barely nicked the finish on the helmet.
I also have a Scorpion EXO, mine is a 700 I believe. It's a little less expensive than what you are looking for, but I have to tell you that the vents work great! I actually feel a draft moving across my skull, very refreshing.
I haven't dropped it nor crashed so I really can't tell you how "hardy" it is but they are Snell approved.
:D

My Scorpion is an EXO-500 I believe. I paid just under $200 for mine, but also has the flip down tint inside the helmet. DOT and SNELL. Only beef is the liner doesn't come out for washing.
I've never ridden with a helmet that vents well, but I have heard for upright riding the Shoei Qwest is the one to get. Also hear wonderful things about the RF-1100. Qwest will probably be my next helmet. Heard the wife has one on layaway for Christmas :thumb:
I ordered RF-1100. I measured my head and it turned out I should have Medium. I got it yesterday and it's too small, but I loved it otherwise.
I have to replace it with large size. I found printable ruler for SHOEI helmets and it verified I need Large and not medium. Wish I found the ruler before.
Damn good choice. Congrats bro

No need to find a Ruler, merely pop into a store and try on the helmets to get the size, then place your order online. Keep in mind for next time. :thumb:

I've been a SHOEI wearer forever. With SHOEI you have to be careful not to go too large. The helmet should fit on your head WITHOUT the very top of your head touching the helmet. If it does, you'll have a sore spot all the time.

I know I should have done that but the school semester has started and I don't really have time to go to store. I am pretty sure the L sized will be perfect.
Thanks for recommendations!
Hmmm, I own a Shoei RF-1000 I got a Seven Zero Seven Vendetta 2 for graduation over the summer. Wow! I like it better than my Shoei The vents are way better and it feels lighter on my head. I haven't done weight analysis to see but I don't get a sore neck. Also, price point I got the Vendetta 2 for $109 on sale at Cycle gear. It is also Snell approved. I thought I'd never veer from Shoei but this helmet is awesome and it really doesn't fog. Not to mention a replacement color visor was $20 vs $35 from Shoei.
I'll def stay away from ICON though if a small drop will crack open the shell!
Mary
i'm drooling over the rf-1100 videos.. who wants to drop my helmet??
just to clarify, I did NOT get my money yet, so do not go around asking people to drop your helmet :D

Read an article in yesterday's newspaper which said that HP is going to produce some more Touchpads, 'cause they sold quite well on firesale. So there is a slight chance in buying one.
Anyway, producing the Touchpad again is - at least - a stupid idea. The newspaper said, HP loses 207 bucks on each Touchpad sold.
