Title: bike not running well or at all
Post by: bigbyrd on August 26, 2011, 07:46:24 PM
bought the bike in june, never had a problem starting it up in till about 2 weeks ago and it just became  ridiculous. and today it seems the day it no longer wants to start. it use to be hard to start after 5 min of running it was good to go. it has a new battery, new spark plugs. it does have gas in it. i am just at a loss.

this is a vid of me trying to start it, no choke, gas - on, i give it full gas and it goes to about 4k rpm, the starts to die, i start to blip it and then full throttle and 4 krpm and dies. any help would be great.

Are you sure you have enough gas in the tank?
Have you tried the petcock on PRI position?

yes gas is in it, only about 70 miles since the the fill up. ive put it in res, i dont believe i have a "pri" setting.

All petcocks (unless soneone replaced it with a non-GS500 one) have PRI (prime), RES (reserve) and ON.
PRI lets gas flow without the vacuum required to open the fuel valve.

70 miles? That's maybe 2 gallons used and it depends on how you fill the tank. I'd add a couple gallons just to be sure. To me it sounds like no gas. Sounds just like Trey sounded a couple weeks ago when he ran out of gas.

Also possible that your reserve fuel line from the tank is pinched.

Please put in more gas and let us know what happens. If nothing more, it will eliminate that as a possible cause.

Hard to Start, after it was good and gradually got harder = check valves. When was the last time they were checked?

Also, the owner's manual says to use a choke to start it, why aren't you using the choke?

so filled it with gas and continue to try and start it, and i notice smoke coming from the pipes that lead to the exhaust. so i let the bike cool down and figure look for a crack or a loose bolt. so the two pipes that connect to the engine each havve two bolt. that look like this.

and the left side pipe on had one bolt on. so im off to find another bolt have hopefully this solves it.
