Hey just wondering if anyone is running crash bobbins on there front and/or back axles? I've ordered the frame ones off eBay but there are none for the axles, there are plenty for the sv's and gsxr's. Would these work??

Haven't seen any sold specifically for the GS500.
Others would work - but remember they mount to the ends of the axle. You would need to insure the axle they come with is compatible.
I don't think they would do any good on the front. Your handlebars would have to break off before axle bobbins would do any good. By that time, you're bike is probably toast.
As for the rear, right side is a waste. You need muffler protectors because the muffler will take a hit before axle bobbins. R&G has nice muffler guards (see photos of them on my bikes). As for the left side - I don't axle bobbins would do much.
You mainly need guards to keep the engine nice and pretty. If you remove the lower fairing, you can get engine bars (OEM if you can find them, of SW-Motec or Rentec for the "E" would fit just fine with no lower fairing). Engine bars protect more than bobbins.
Muffler guards. Homemade. 90mm plastic waste-water plastic pipe slit along one side fits snuggly onto exhaust can. You only need a shortish piece. Rated to an easy 80+ degrees C. Run a large stainless worm-clip around it to hold firmly in place or do a bit of constructive carving on the plastic pipe so that it twists and then notches into place around the mounting bolt area. At the hardware shop there are short plastic pipe lengths with a big screw thread at one end - originally intended for a cap - that look quite authentic, particularly if given a coat of black heat-resisting paint.
Some people also use a length of reinforced hose secured around the can with a worm-clip inside the hose. You can find these big worm-clips in the "make-a-clip" yourself packs available at the discount stores.

Ahhhhhhhh ok I was wondering why there were none. Makes sense thought the handlebars and muffler on the right side takin the impact. Think I'll stick with the frame ones off ebay and pray I dont drop the bike or have something else much more solid than me hit. Cheers for the advice.

I have experience - one was scraped all to hell when the bike went down a little over a year ago. Saved the engine for sure.
