Okay guys im new here I have a 2008 GS500F and I was reading some stuff on here and saw you can switch out the rear shock well I want to do that as my bike has to much sagging in the back end looks kind of dumb to me plus I have clip ons and I want that more sport bike feel but anyways which spring is the best one and do I just change the shock and all that or do I have to change dogbones and all that other stuff
searching and punctuation will help greatly haha
you'll swap complete shocks, can leave stock dog bones on or use different ones to change ride height.

you can use a few different shock as a direct bolt on. be careful you research the correct year shock, some differ by years.
you can also get a full race shock for more adjustablilty, i believe someone was selling a Works shock over in the For Sale section.
oh and forgot to say, WELCOME!
Had a works shock for sale. No one wanted it. I guess because some members didn't have anything good to say about it (which surprised me) so I gave it away to anyone who would get it out of my garage. It was a good shock - just too stiff for me. Someone else has one right now for $250.
Katana 600 shock is a direct swap, stiffens up the back end, raises the back some when you're on it, and is pretty cheap (~$50). I was happy with mine.
Stated as well the Kat750 shock with remote reservoir that has preload, compression, and rebound adjustability will fit as well. Pretty stiff if you set the preload high like I did, but I also weigh about 200.
I prefer the GS500 shock.
I'm currently using a katana 750 shock and it's way too stiff even at the softest setting. It may be great for the racetrack when you push it hard into the curves, but for everyday riding it's ridiculous.
I removed the Kat shock on Trey, putting stock back on. Kat was too stiff and too high. You can adjust the rear shock to be stiffer or softer.
Front springs are a different issue and usually should be replaced. See my thread on front springs if anyone knows about them.
I have a 2009 GS500F and I'm thinking about changing out the rear shock. I'm 5'9 260#. I'm looking at the Katana 750. Is there any specific model year shock I should be looking for or will any work? Right now, there aren't many to choose from on fleabay. Any other ideas where I might find one?
Thanks.
I just installed a 2003 Katana 750 shock on mine and it's way over sprung for a 180 lb rider. There is no sag at all even with the spring collar spun all the way out. I just ordered a 2008 R6 shock. Hopefully that will be a little more compliant since it has a softer spring.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
I believe 99 and up is the model you are looking for - pretty sure you want a shock from the Kat with a 4.5 inch rear wheel.
BTW: Kat 600 shocks have nearly the same spring rate as the Kat 750. 750 is a nicer shock body though - remote res, with compression, rebound, preload.
I have a Yamaha R6 rear shock in my one, so they're an option too. Fully adjustable settings too.
