Ok so I just got my Kat 600 shock today and installed it. Well I dont really know how to set it up right now I have the bottom setting on 4 and Im not sure what setting the top is on now I went through them and it seems the top one either puts it bouncy or stiff which one do I want I am hoping someone on here can help me...
Its a 96 Kat 600 shock by the way
Really no one can help me here?
It's all your preference, generally though, stiffer is geared more for 'performance' whereas bouncy is more for DD, though I would not really want to be bouncy on a bike.
it can take more than 24 hours for other user input .. Sometimes ..
But i would start somewhere in the middle and ride a hour or so .. To get the change in overall feel in your skull .. Then click it up or down 2 clicks ... I say 2 to make a more noticeable graduation than one .. Ride another hour or 2 and see if you like the change .. Thats for the bottom .. Preload? .. The top would be damping? .. And as stafebak said its personal pref .. But the variables would be .. Smooth/rough roads you frequent? .. Riding style aggressive/cruise/other .. Your weight and how you shift it around on the bike ..
Adjust and test and adjust and test .. If you dont ride like a organ donor during this process you should be able to settle on your preferred setup soonish
I just installed one on my suki. I weigh about 170ish with gear and I got both setting set to 1. It feels so much better than stock that it already feels perfect. I need to play with the dampening but haven't felt much of a need to since the rear doesn't sag much or bounce hardly at all. With my weight on it only drops by about an inch to inch and a half. How u setup your suspension is different for everyone. It depends on weight, riding style, and the bikes current setup. I wouldn't make the rear too hard until to stiffen the front too or it'll be too unbalanced.
