Title: Bike won't start!!
Post by: Swilldaddy on September 08, 2011, 09:20:06 AM
I'm not a mechanical mind, but I can follow directions..  My kids were playing in the garage and knocked my bike over on the kickstand side..  The bike won't even turn over now.  No visible damage was done.  Headlight and gauge lights turn on but not even the slightest of sounds when i hit the ign. switch.  Any help is appreciated.

Check the sidestand and clutch switches for serviceability.

The clutch switch is situated on the base of the clutch lever bracket.

If your bike is in gear and the switch isn't completing the circuit, the bike will not start. If it's in neutral, the bike will start. Put the bike in neutral to test the switch.

Not all the bikes will start just by having it in neutral. My 2000 GS will ONLY start if the clutch is disengaged. It also has to be out of gear if the side stand is down, and yes, the kill switch will also give you problems. But don't rule out the ignition button, if it fell on that side, it could have done some damage inside...
