Title: Going to test ride an 08 GSXR 600..not
Post by: steezin_and_wheezin on September 08, 2011, 12:56:06 PM
EDIT: failure. a dealer that's insurance does not allow test rides, at all? wasn't even going to take it to the point of asking her, "if i come to buy this today, i can't even test ride to make sure its functioning properly?"

this was a waste of a thread.. hopefully i'll get to saddle up a 600 sometime

That's the norm with everything besides Harley dealerships around here.

Very odd.
Here, test rides are OK with endorsement and insurance.
My Allstate insurance covers:
* Me on my bike
* Anyone else riding my bike as long as they have an endorsement and my permission
* ME riding any bike as long as I have the owners permission

maybe it is your insurance policy? Or a dealer that doesn't want to make a sale?

Norm for test rides here is.... photo copy of license, sign on the dotted line if you crash the bike you owe them $2000 for their Insurance Excess.

ALSO, if the bike is brand spanking, they will NOT let you go for a test ride because as soon as it is out the door it is no longer brand new and is only a Demo bike. So unless they have a pre-existing Demo of the bike you want to ride, you're SOOL.

It seems counter productive, but there are some bikes that people buy without test riding them - R1, Busa, GSXR 1000, CBR 1000, etc.

In short, no test rides of brand new bikes unless they have a demo version available. 2nd hand bikes can readily be taken for an accompanied spin with you agreeing to pay $2000 insurance excess should you have an off.

Hadn't thought of that, it is probably the reason the import dealers here don't let you test ride.  Harley has rentals/demos.

I think the Battley Cycles in Gaithersburg will let you ride some of their BMWs too. They were pushing S1000RR demos last year!

my insurance covers me and any other bike(with owners permission) as well

the dealer is a small suzuki dealer, girl at the front desk said that their insurance didn't allow it. i've found a few more shops, but i feel like i'm manipulating the system now haha. i'll just sit tight til something comes up

I don't understand why there would be different rules between cars and bikes as far as when it's no longer new..

i definitely can understand if it was a brand new bike. it was an 08 with 4k on it. there's no way they Can't test ride. the girl probably just assumed i was some punk off the street with no cash just looking for a free adrenaline rush. if that's the case, she was 90% correct hahah

going to roll by another sport bike shop either this afternoon or tomorrow. i'm not looking to go top speed, just want to feel something out of the norm(GS)

IT'S A TRAP!

Yeah it seems HD and BMW let you demo out the whoa, but Japanese dealers don't. Do Ducati places let you? I thought I saw a place that would.

i went to two HD dealers that day. early am i live 40 mins from the dragon.  anyhoo went to smoky mtn HD. and drove up to a demo day. @ the dragon lol. rode a RK, a soft tail, a garbage barge, ( FLHTCUI/bagger, as well as a used goldwing. liked teh hd better , but both were easy to maneuver. anyhoo after ridign 5 bikes that day, went to another hd dealer nearer home, and bought a sportie . an 03 883c had 156 miles on the odo.

got to sit on an 06 gsxr 600 yesterday! it was surprisingly light, just a little heavier than the gs.

its my friends co worker who hangs out pretty often. didn't ask to take it out since he had it stored inside at work, but he said i was welcome to ride it whenever we get a chance to meet up and ride :woohoo:

That's cool. But it's actually a good bit lighter than the GS.
