What are forum members paying? I knew the price on the Big Island of Hawaii would be high. I was quoted $6000 out the door. Everything is more here, but that seems even higher than that would account for. And that is for a motorcycle that will be four model years old soon .

At the beginning of the season I bought a 2009 for 4,250 out of the door. I also got it for 1.99% apr however, suzuki had a killer deal going on at the time.
I got mine for 4100. killer deal on overstock.
Remember that "out the door" includes licensing, sales tax, dealer prep, etc.
Other than licensing and sales tax, everything else should be lower and open to negotiation.
You could buy one on the mainland and boat it over for probably $1000 shipping. I boated a Honda Odyssey mini-van thing for about $1400 from Seattle.
Buy one in Oregon - zero sales tax there and Portland is a major port.
That's an idea. I'll check it out.

I had to pay tax on all cars I buy out of state once I get the licensed, not at the time of sale.
well 1 year ago here in Australia i got my 2009 for an absolute bargain...
i was looking at second hand ones with prices range of $6000 to $7500 and i was just about to get one when i asked out of curiosity how much is a new one....
the sales rep walked off and come back to me and said if i wanted a blue and white one, one just turned up in a truck. he said it will be $7000 on road no more to pay, plus i got grand opening specials like 3 year extended warranty, dealer branded crap like a hat and crap and an advance rider course valued at $200
My new 09 cost me $4000 "out the door" back in February of this year. I live in CA where taxes and fees are hefty, so if memory serves me correctly the taxes and licensing fees were at least $500 of the $4k. Suzuki was offering some sort of incentive on GS's at the time. I believe the sticker price was $4300 or $4400, but the incentive took the price down to $3499.
XLAR8 where abouts in Aus are you? That's an awesome price! I picked my 09 GS500F secondhand with 12500k for $4800 off ebay. The dude I dealt with was awesome and the bike is in exceptional nick.
