l have a 04 500f and i am trying to find out how the bike was lowerd. i know it doesnt have shorter dog bones because i have some stock ones and they are the same size that are on there know. any ideas would be helpful.
Deflated tires?
Lower seat, bad shock, etc? How do you know it was lowered?
Like Rich said....check the seat. My PO had the seat shaved down, and put a gel pad in.
Just a note, you lower the bike with longer dog bones.
Can you post a pic. If they didn't lower the rear with dog bones, it pretty much has to be something with the shock/spring.
ill get some pics up today but it is has been lowerd. the seat is stock and i ordered some stock dog bones thinking thats whats been done but there the same as on the bike know. it also is stiff as a board no bounce in the rear.
Now that you say "stiff as a board no bounce in rear" that means your rear shock has bit the dust - ITS FALLEN DOWN AND CAN'T GET UP. You need Life Alert!
Well, I wouldn't say shock necessarily . More like spring/spring mount probably. Do you have a center stand? Maybe get the weight off the wheel/swing arm and see if it flop's around or feels funny. Like no pressure on the spring.

sorry about the pics i was trying to figure it out. do you think some how the have losen the bracket that the shock and dog bone bolt to then pressed the shock closed then thighten the bracket.
i am going to bump it to top see if any ones has any ideas?
did you follow the directions posted about the center stand? Did you determine if the shock is damaged?
Provide answers to those questions first or nobody will be able/willing to help you.
Could be my perception or view, but the part the dogbones attach to looks upside down? Maybe?
What makes you think it is lowered? By how much? Or are you comparing it to a bike that has been raised up?
Sure, someone chopped off the rear fender and may have re-mounted it wrong (reflectors are at an angle), but from the side the bike looks OK to me.
Take a picture of the shock through the frame just below the seat to show how much travel is available. What I'm looking for is how much of the shaft I can see inside the spring coils.
Either way if the bike doesn't budge or move when you push on it there's some problem with the shock/spring. Unless someone over tightened the hell out of the linkage and shock. I would just go ahead and pull the shock to make sure everything is ok.
It's possible someone did a 'backyard' lowering job, by cutting the shock spring down a little. Taking a photo as scratch suggested might help.
Bike does look lower than normal to me. The dogbones look to be installed normally, and I'll take the OP at his word that they are the same as stock.
