Title: New Ride Video - Suzuki GS500 on Secret Road II
Post by: mister on September 30, 2011, 10:09:16 PM
Some ride only footage from our recent GS500 meetup. Along a stretch of road not known but to those who know it.

As we are only Just out of Winter the greenery is more like brownery. But the scenery gives you an idea of what it's like riding around here. Beautiful...

There was no real whole bunch of twisties. This road, like the Lions Rd, is all about the scenery - so look around the screen as the footage goes by. But if you want straight, there is a road on the way from Oakey to Goombungee that's 16km long and dead straight. As you ride it you see a hill in the distance and five minutes later it's still in the distance and you wonder if the road will ever end.

While the video does show some bumpiness, the road itself isn't That bad to ride. And at around 7.20 in the video when we are coming down the hill and you can see two mountains in the distance, the footage doesn't really do it justice. In real life and not distorted wide-angle they are Much closer and the one on the right had a purple tinge to it. Really quite magical.

im guessing the video above is somewhere around north/north west nsw or southish qld?
looks similar to alot of the roads out the back of lismore/casino from the video, yet the mountain arnt recognisable to me and theres no road signs letting me know where it is

Everything is from California. Lots of different roads...

In order of appearance...

California State 33, located a little south east of Santa Barbara. You can see the same road in the places from that viewpoint.

California State 70, which is South of Mt. Lassen. Runs down the mountain along a river. The PG&E Hydro/electric dams are beautiful, but the tunnels really made it for me. "Northern California's 2nd best road."

California State 89 - Northern California's "Best Road." Located in the High Sierra, it's only ridable for a handful of months. Shame it was raining on the Navada side of things.

Lake Tahoe. To be honest, the riding isn't that great. The southern bit is okay as it winds along the cliffs, but there's better. The lake is pretty though.

Mt. Lassen - Still had snow in September, in 60 degree weather. Beautiful riding, though a fair bit of traffic.

First picture was from a 2-up ride I did with my SO in Southern CA. The other 4 pictures are from a 1500 mile Memorial day weekend ride through Northern CA. Went from SF to Eureka, Southeast to Shasta, East to Lassen, South through the Sierras, and then back west to the bay area.

Go touring - you have absolutely no idea what you're missing out on. :)

The picture of CA-33 is one single road. Starts in the distance and goes to where I took that picture. Shame of that ride is that it ended at the scene of an accident -- Double fatality when a squid on a sport bike blew the double yellow, and went head first into a Harley. Kind of killed the mood. :(

CA-89 was freshly paved - they hadn't even finished painting the lines on it when I got there. Amazing amazing amazing piece of asphalt.

gtscott,

I think you mean North East NSW or South East Qld  :icon_mrgreen:

Part of the border ranges, yes. No street signs cause it's a Secret road (doh  :icon_rolleyes:)

It's not recognizable because the main roads don't show you these views - these views are hidden from the main roads by the hills on either side of these views.

SE Qld and NE NSW have such good variety of riding roads. But you have to be willing to travel just a bit. Most riders aren't, so most stick to the couple of riding roads near town - and the cops stick there too. Which is good for me cause where I go there are no cops.
