Title: Brand new 2007 GS500F Still in the crate! Good or not guys.
Post by: SS Adrenaline on October 04, 2011, 05:10:22 AM
As the title says I have an oppertunity to purchase a 2007 with 1km on it.  I love everything Im hearning about the GS except for the squealing rear brake and the crank shaft noise on some models at idle.  It is still in the crate and needs to be put together.  The guy has the manufacture title.  Heres the link:

Do you guys think its woth it?  He wants the asking price but it seems alittle steep even if it is brand new.  It doesnt have warrany obviously.  This is my first post and I hoping to get some advice.  Thank you guys inadvance.  Heres hoping to be a GS owner someday.  Cheers.

Interesting......

Price seems high to me.....$5500 canadian is about $5200 US....I got my '09 new in US for $4200 in '10.........I've seen leftover '07...'08   '09 in the us for $3700...but most if not all  are now sold out....

I know prices for motorcycles run higher in Canada...........

Could you get an "used" '09 with low miles maybe with warantee still in effect for lots less??

A "brand new" bike is only brand new untill you ride it...then it is the same as all the other low mileage used bike out there for lots less money....In other words..you losse like $1000 as you leave teh showroom!

BTW...my brakes don't squeel...and no crank noises...

But red flags too...why still in crate??? How did this guy end up with a bike in crate for 4 years??  Why not from dealer..assembled etc.????

K8 = 2008 model, not 2007
You have a VIN number in the photo - you can do a free run on it through the insurance institute to see if stolen.
How did a USA bike to a dealer in GA get to Canada in the crate?
Full price, not a dealer and n o warranty = not good.
Maybe $3000 but too many red flags.
I personally would not touch it.
Too many used bikes around for much less.

PS: My brakes on all 3 bikes are fine. Only once in a while a little rear squeak when a bike hasn't been out for a while - probably surface dirt & stuff. Use brakes once or twice and its gone. Only my 1992 has some rattling when idling - then it is pretty old, even though it doesn't look that old since I've fixed him up.

PSPS: A vin check with NCIB https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck does not indicate stolen or totaled. Then if it never made it to the dealer, it might never be reported as stolen. And if it was to the USA dealer, how can it say 1km - wouldn't it me 1 mile? There is a tag with ID numbers - what if you call Suzuki in Georgia? Still, for the price, too many red flags. Too dusty, box too torn up. If a USA model, can you license it easily in Canada? Is there a title for it?

Bike was built in GA at the Suzuki factory there and then sent to Canada.

Still way too much. Dude's acting like it's a collector's item. It's not. Well, not once you take it out of the box... then it's just a used '07 F

I always wonder what the real stories behind sales like this are.  I mean to have ordered and bought that and NEVER used it.  There has to be a story there ;)

Anyhooo...Thats expensive.  Unless that crate is worth something.  I paid less than that for an 09 F new (in Canada).

GS is a great bike... but that price is indeed too high.   I bought a brand new 2009 this last spring for 4200 USD

Thank you very much guys.  You all have very good points.  I will keep on looking though.  I really want to be a true gstwins member and get one of these gems.  Time will tell I guess.  Thanks again everyone.

There was a guy here who bought a crated bike from a dealer. Figured he'd save on the pre-delivery charge and whatnot. But as soon as you do that you do NOT get a warranty (if that matters to you). - This is not a normal option for the general public so the purchaser must know someone to be able to do this.

The bike looks like it is photographed in a self storage shed with another bike along side of it, also in a crate. (Is the owner selling or the storage company to recover storage costs?)

The only way to know more is to email the seller and ask how they ended up acquiring a bike in a crate and not assembling it? You might be surprised and get a straight answer.

As for price? Well, as all GS500s are pretty well the same since 2001 and on, to pay more cause a bike has a more recent build date is meaningless if you pan to keep the bike and are not looking for resale value (which is hoping someone else also thinks more recent build date is better). But if you want an unridden bike (new), then you fork over the larger dollars.

A new bike like that down here in Oz would be super cheap. We're looking at $6,999 for naked GS500s brand new (factory special, I think to get rid of over stock).

If you want new, call Suzuki Canada and ask them where you can get a new one from - or call your local Suzuki dealer and ask them to order one in. Factories often have specials. Just because someone bought a bike while it was on special doesn't mean an non-special bike of higher price is a rip off. Need to do your own price comparisons for your area to see what the going prices are.

I paid $5000 OTD in 07' for an 07', the guy is delusional at best. But I do prefer the 07' graphics over the look of any of the newer GS's
