Could someone devise a walk-through for replacing the horn on an 05 GS500?

Tell us what you're doing and why it is hard.
Replacing a bad horn? 2 push on connectors and one screw
Aftermarket louder horn? Follow directions with the one you buy.
Haven't even messed with it. Just seeing if there is anything special I need to do, what tools I would need, required parts, etc. For the mechanically challenged. :embarassed:

Well I see one screw above and slightly to the right of the horn button. Then on the underside there are two machine screws. And there are also 3 small holes I'm assuming for smaller screws. Would these all need to be removed for the replacement of the horn?
Uh, your looking at the horn button - not the horn.
The horn is that round disc mounted on the frame, just below the steering column.
Look at the bike in the area of the exhaust headers. When you look there, you should see the horn mounted to the frame.
Are you needing a new horn or new horn button control?
Oh, wasn't sure about that. I see... If that is the case I may need to remove the fairings to access the horn assembly. I believe the horn button control is working, but I would have no way to prove it. In all likelihood the horn done died. :icon_confused:

probably due to rain. i hope it's the actual horn and not the wiring electronics somewhere
I got a little over-curious one day waiting for parts to arrive, and took apart my horn to see what electronic magic hid inside. After a few washers and plates, curiosity satisified, I put it together and mounted it up, yet it wouldn't 'meep'. I thought I had put sufficient pressure on the nut on the front of the horn, but I cranked it down a little more, and the horn worked again. Perhaps your's are just loose?
With luck, you can reach it. It is on the left behind the left end of the oil cooler.
Worst case, remove lower left fairing only. Couple bolts (different sizes, so remember where they go) and plastic clips that hold the two sides together at the bottom. Use a small flat screwdriver to pop open the plastic fastener then pull it out. Later, push back in then push the cap back down.
Two ways to test:
1. Use a volt meter to see if +12 goes to the horn when you press the button (with the bike turned on)
2. Remove horn and test with a 9 volt battery. Should make some sound.
3. Also possible a wire simply came off the horn
If you need a new horn, I have a half a dozen or so in the bike cave's parts bins.

No. Sometimes I don't feel like tooting my own horn. I know I should do tutorials of all the stuff I've been doing. I've thought of making videos. To do that, I have to learn a TV Infomercial accent so I sound smart (I think that's British with a bit of Ausie and a pinch of Boston)
