My clutch has started slipping when under load, so some new parts are in order, however i am a noob.
What will i need to get the clutch back to normal?
I'm assuming the basket will still be good? What plates will i need? Will i need springs etc?
Could someone kindly list the parts i will need to fix the clutch and stop it slipping under load.
Also is there any how-to on changing the plates etc? Thanks
HA! someone I can finally help. I just replaced my clutch 2 weeks ago, it's about a 2-3 hour job with 2 people doing it.
I bought KBC plates
Springs
new oil
filter
engine gasket (In case I broke it, returned it unopened after)
I can give you a general step by step.
1) take your new clutch plates (the fiber ones) and then rough them up a bit with coarse sand paper. then soak them in the new oil you're about to put in, leave them there until you're ready to swap.
2) Take off fairings, drain out the oil. Put it up on centrestand.
3) Remove the Suzuki cap. Unhook the stuff in there, take out the starter pick up (thing that spins in the middle) leave the wires screwed onto the plate at the bottom of the assembly. There's only a wire, so you'll know what I'm talking about. Put
4) Take off the right side of the engine. Each bolt has to go baack where it came from so start somewhere label that 1. then with a dry erase marker, label 1 on the cover. use masking tape to label the rest and put them to the side.
3) You'll see the clutch basket. Take off the springs, compare them to your new springs just to see if there's a difference, new ones should be bigger. Label these bolts too, and place them to the side. Now you'll remove the basket cover, and you'll have alternating plates 1 metal, one fiber, do not mix these up, or turn them around. You'll probably be replacing the fiber ones. What I did was I marked which order they were in with a sharpie, and put all the marks on the same side and then I knew how they were oriented. You check check that these line up with the thickness required in the repair manual using a micrometer.
4) The new fiber plates should be soaked well now, so put these in, and go backwards to put it all together, being careful to line everything up. Tighten to specs in repair manual.
*I made a mistake putting the engine pick up and didn't seat it properly so then engine would make a revolution and stop. Don't make this same mistake.
I used this as my guide, it has purty picture.
