Title: Front Left Fork Leaking Oil from the bottom ??
Post by: surferdave on October 16, 2011, 12:48:13 PM
Hi guys,

Been restoring my '99 gs500e for a couple weeks,  poor thing sat in a garage for about 3 years.   I recently put in new Sonic Springs and fork oil and noticed a couple days later a drop or two of Fork oil coming out from the bottom of the front left fork.  The seals don't seem to be leaking but there is a very small amount of oil accumulating at the bottom of the fork in that recess below where the front axle sits.   Is this a common problem?   Can it be fixed easily?   I'm pretty new to this stuff, still learning a lot, can't wait to get this bike back up and running.

   thanks guys

Could be a bad seal on the fork piston retainer bolt... Wrong torque? Bad crush washer?

Yeah probably best to use a new copper washer or re anneal your old one if you can by heating it cherry red then quenching in water. Also using loctite on the threads like 243.
