Title: My piece of krap won't start
Post by: Toogoofy317 on October 27, 2011, 07:54:32 AM
I really am at my wits in. So, I took the carbs in got them cleaned and adjusted. $135 put 'em on now he won't even run. Well, we got him running the other night and I rode him home. He was doing okay just not idling so I adjusted the idle screw so that it would idle at 15-1800. Rode around the block seemed okay and parked it. Got up the next morning for a doctor's appointment. The starter picks up but nothing. I put the idle screw back where it was and nothing. I'm so done with this hunk a krap 3 weeks of beautiful 82 degree days and I'm stuck in my car running through gas that I don't even have money for.

Is there anyone in the Kissimmee/ Orlando area that can help me? I definately don't have $500 to take it to a shop. Especially being hospitalized twice this month and being told I need to give up my job. I'm under alot of stress and this bike is one of my few stress relievers which has now become a stressor.  :embarrassed:

Well, now if I wasn't down low enough my car self-destructed today. Or at least I'm pretty sure. Driving over to school to argue about a financial aid screw up (went from getting $700 to owing $400) my car developed an engine knock. PepBoys mechanic said it was a blown head gasket. What else can possible go wrong right now?

When you do that, I say I send you a set of carbs from a running bike and put them on while waiting for yours to come back. Keep Flick running is what I say.

Blown head gasket= oil in radiator water and /or water in the oil (looks milky). Knocking noises are caused by things like dead bearings. I'd get a 2nd opinion.

even the pep boys guys can guess and be right now and again about what caused a noise... like when it looks like a small steam locomotive has climbed into your exhaust pipe...

Well, good news! Flick is running part of it seems to be an electrical gremlin it is either the boot over the spark plug boot or the coil. I'm getting the boot tomorrow and I'm going to try that and see if it is that or the coil. Any one know how to check my coil?

Flick is still running very rich though Buddha do you have a 62.5 and a 137 jet? I believe that is what I need being that I have the K&N drop in filter.

No spark = probably bad coil.
Need a set? Got a half a dozen or so.
Well, if one cylinder isn't firing, could be coil or wire. Coils are the same so you could flip them and see if there is anything different. If wire spins in end of coil, probably no connection (or a bad one) so replace it.

Don't know yet if this really tells if a coil is bad buy in checking 3 coils.....

Resistance between the 2 terminals: around 4.7 ohms
Resistance between spark plug connection and either input terminal: 22k to 27k ohms.
There is no connection to the square, metal mounting rod.

Hey Adidas I will take you up on the offer of the coil. Because Flick wouldn't start today  so I can't get over to pick up the boots. I also got a new battery today because the one I had after all of the starting difficulties seems to have bit the dust too.

I just want to ride! And make it to school and appointments

Mary,

How old is your bike and how many miles do you have on it????
Do you maintain the bike well????

Just asking to get a feel of what's going on with Flick, I am trying to get jets from Buddha too (he hasn't gotten back to me) and am wondering if I should rejet at all after hearing your situation.

Flick has 25,000 well cared for babied miles on him. The next service which is coming soon will actually be the first one that wasn't done by a dealership. I've been religous on the service increments. Ocassionally, he's been out in the rain after all it's Florida. I've never over reved mainly commuting around town.

Well, new battery and still no start.
