Average high's here in north east Pa are getting a bit too cold for me to enjoy riding.
Going to be chilly but sunny tomorrow, so I plan to go for a nice long ride to end the season and put the bike away to be wrenched on when I get back and it cools.
Probably going to start taking it apart Saturday since I'm off of work til Mon night.
Just need a lil advice tho on what to have, get, use, do, & watch out for.. etc etc
First time I will dismantling any motorcycle.
Have a manual.
Basic wide variety of tools.
WD40
Will get a variety of durable zip lock bags tomorrow to put nuts, bolts, parts etc etc in and label.
& yes the first thing I plan to do is drain the oil, then the tank (& clean it) & carbs, & toss the battery on the charger.
Just wanna cover my butt as I pretty much have nothin to do Sat or Sun and plan to be wrenching on the bike for like 6 hrs+ at Least each day.
My best advice: take LOTS of pictures of where stuff is and how it's oriented on the bike. And any bolts that you take out, put them right back once the 2 parts are separated. That way you don't have a bin of "spare bolts".
:woohoo:
Come down to Florida, our bike season has just begun

Most of us living a lot further North would love to. Just around the freezing mark this morning up here (Toronto) so I'll have a couple of weeks left before winter prep and putting it in a far corner of the garage under a cover until March/April.

interesting.... do you have any particular goals, or are you basically just doing "army rifle assembly" type drills? :D

Plan to have the bike fully apart over the winter.
as for what exactly to do Sat & Sun...... first time doing anything in such detail.
I've only taken off and had to mess with the tank, fairings, headlight, handlebars, carbs, rims & brakes.
I have no idea what to go after first honestly. (major parts that is)
which is why I'm here askin for some advice.
like one thing that comes to mind.
going to be swapping the front end with a 93 Kat600
but im pretty certain taking the motor out before the wheels are off would be alot less headache then trying to take it out with the front end off at least.
& BRRRRR!!!! last day riding until next year was nice but legs are Freezing!
gotta get that bike in the cellar as soon as an extra set of hands are available and when its cool.
got 3 to 10 inches of snow comin overnight. :thumb:
(edit)
and thanks Rich!
I probably would have just gotten into a routine of baggin and labeling most things.
but putting bolts and such right back in after the parts come out is Really good advice.
