Title: Quicky: Chain guard screw size?
Post by: bombshelter13 on November 02, 2011, 09:43:29 AM
Got a quick question:

Riding to work today, I heard a rattling sound. While stopped at a light, I took a look downwards and lo and behold, the rearmost of the two screws holding the plastic chain guard in place (screw part # D2116-06128) seems to have fallen out... so, I need a new screw.

Seeing as this is just a basic screw holding a flimsy piece of plastic, I don't wanna bother getting a new screw from a bike shop and would rather just find one at the closest hardware shop on my way home from work. So... what's the size of this screw?

TLDR version: What's the size of the rearmost of the two screws holding the chain guard? (PN #D2116-06128)

I went to home depot the other day, and picked up the chain guard screws myself!
What I got was hex screws and lock nuts for about 1 dollar. Go into the Metric section and and ask an employee if they have the hillman brand and I can't figure out the model number, there is two different things, one under the bar code and one above it.

The one above is [ Both of the hex and the lock nuts ]
Locknut: M6-1.00
Hex: M6-1.00 x 16

And below the barcode
Locknut: H# 880812
Hex: H# 880654

the hex should fit a metic size 10 wrench. I have the packages, so if you need more info lemme know. - John

Redneck solution = ziptie it in place.

This happened to me. I had the ziptie on for a couple of months before I got a replacement from the dealer (we don't have such a wide selection of things at hardware stores here and my local bolt shop went under).

Yeah, for this kind of job a ghetto solution would work, which is why I'm not super concerned about getting the 'official' bolt from Suzuki. On my way from work to the hardware store I'm just going to secure it with hockey tape.

One of my chainguard screws wiggled out a few days ago,I just ordered the  D2116-06128 part from a bike shop.
Even after tightening both down ,after a few hundred miles they loosened again,a little Loctite on the screws will hold them in tight.
