Well I'm a dumbass. Took my battery out to trickle charge it and there's a black wire with two leads which I'm assuming came off the battery? I don't know how I would've missed that when I took it off but wondering if anyone knows what they're for and if polarity matters when connecting to the battery (if they go there).
Additionally, I measured 10VDC off battery with a multimeter before I put it in and the bike just makes a very rapid clicking noise, it's back to trickle charge up to 12VDC to see if that helps.

Black goes to the NEGATIVE. One is the motor ground. Other is electrical lighting ground.
RED goes to POSITIVE. That goes to the starter relay and fuse block.
10v is a bad battery. You can trickle charge it without removing it.

Also, unless you've had extra things added to your bike that require power, the + only has one wire, the - has two. With OEM battery...

Note the foam inserted between the battery and the bettery's box. The GS500 doesn't really have any device for securing the battery in the box. So it's free to bounce around. Bouncing and moving and banging are not good for batteries. So I added the foam (jammed it in there) to help keep the battery secure. :thumb:

I thought so to. Until I had a play and found it wasn't as snug as I'd thought.
the Shorai battery is quite a LOT smaller. Good thing it comes with extra pad to help make it snug. Addy, got any snaps of how much padding is around the Shorai to keep it snug?

The LiFe battery with lots of foam to make it snug as a bug in a rug --- and note that I haven't connected the negative terminal yet. These batteries are so small you have to add lots of foam (which comes with the battery). Since it is an inch shorter, you add some padding under it, too.

Factory battery boxes do have a couple pieces of foam. It often rots away with time or gets so squished it doesn't do any good. Add some so your battery doesn't bounce around.
so Thats what that clunky thump noise is ! .. (goes to find some foam) go figure!
Thanks for the help. I looked around some more and followed the wires, turns out the previous owner had an external battery trickle charger. The black wires go to an adapter so you don't have to remove the seat to charge, just plug n play...
