For those that are running a 98+ Kat front rim to match the rear Kat rim and are using the GS forks, did you use the original axle? Im assuming you are using the matching Kat rotors and calipers?
You cant run the 98 rim afaik on a gs FE. I have run the 98 rim in a 98 kat fe on a gs.
You have to mod a bunch ... I never tried to fit it on a gs FE.

Well that sucks.
I want matching rims so if I use a pre 98 Kat rear rim then I gotta do work to it and if I want to run a 98+ rear I gotta run a Kat FE to run the 98+ front rim.
Do you know what might be the different in running a Kat 98+ front rim with dual rotors versus a stock GS rim with dual rotors both on a GS FE?
Pre 96 rear kat rim = GS rear rim. and pre 96 kat front = GS rim. Same wheels as GS till 96.
Only the straight spoke kat rear rim is wider. AKA 97 and later.
The 97 and later front rim is wider than the GS rim ... straight spoke front and rear are wider.
That is why the B4 rims are seriously in demand ... they are 4" and fit the gs rear as well as match the front perfect. Its the only wider one that matches the front.
The matter is made worse by the fact that the 97 and later Front end is not as good as the 89-95. A FE swap 89-96 is the best ... again leaving you with a swept spoke wheel. However the twist is this - I have managed to fit a 96 and later rim on a 96 and earlier katana FE.
Anyway sorry I dont have a good answer for you, but with enough machine work and trial and error anything can be made to fit, but, will it be reliable, will it be serviceable as you use it ongoingly, like you fit it and next time you take it off to fit a tire it cant be refitted without a run to the machine shop ... etc etc is the questions you want to ask yourself.

This was in another thread where someone said it was totally do-able....
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=43181.msg484790#msg484790
THX. I remember reading that thread some time back but couldnt find it. I thought you could but i damn sure didnt want to buy one and it not fit.
I cant seem to get rid of the spare parts i got now and dont need more
99 gsx5 750 front and rear rim :icon_mrgreen: although im thinking about swapping back to a smaller rear wheel
Hey Rebel, bring those pics back. Why di you want to go back to a smaller rim?
well the previous owner swapped them out when, so I never had the stock wheel. and it's just more of a clearance issue. the tire takes up quite a bit of room. As for the pics I didn't have any up, but I can take some if ya like
if you dont mind taking some pics of the rim, rotors and calipers i would appreciate it
I'll see what I can do, but I don't have a camera so it may be a week or two
