Soon (I hope) I purchased a slip-on can from the Buddha. I am so excited to improve the sound of my GS as that really is the only thing I am disappointed with.
Question: What type of silicone or adhesive do you use along with the clamp to seal the exhaust connection into the muffler?
I will also try to post picks of my bike as I have done a bunch of upgrades and feel it is time for me to share them with everyone.
What has everyone used on their slip-ons and what works??
When I installed my slip on; Once you make your cut at the mid (in the case of my 09 it was to be cut 70mm from the weld) I sanded it really good ... nice and smooth, be sure you get rid of any bumps etc..you want it super smooth. Then I used High temp RTV exhaust silicone (bought at a local parts store) and applied that and then slid the slip on in and torqued. Never had an issue.
This can I think is best fitted by cutting the stock can off as it flares from the weld. Cut with a jig saw or a dremel tool not a chop saw, cos inside the flare the header continues for 2" or so, that would be the best part to fit it on. You want a shallow cut and remove the can and shave the weld nice and smooth. Then you may jus tbe able to slip it on and clamp it up, if you must, use tin foil, wont need adhesive, its held there via clamps.
BTW you should get it early next week, I am havnig the wife mail it eithe ralready done or in the next 2-3 hours.

I use Permatex Ultra Copper for just about everything including exhaust systems. Used it on my GS when I installed the Yoshi slip-on. Holds up to the heat well.

It's not strictly necessary, try just clamping it first then apply sealant if it leaks.
if you dont want to cut off your muffler i have a header for sale that has already been cut off. i was gonna use it for my bike but i dont see a new can in my budget anytime soon!
you can sell your old exhaust by the way for around 100 or more bucks i bought my stock for 120 after shipping.
I'd use some copper anti seize or some exhaust rtv.

I have to say withoutsounding like a flower, this forum is great. I have a 2003 ZQ8 and also belong to the S10 forum. Sadly over there the forum members are nothing like here. No one responds to anyones thread or even makes comments/input. I don't know if this forum has spoiled me or that forum just stinks, but either way I'm glad this forum is around. :thumb:

Both.
Seems to me, certain bikes are only appreciated by a certain type of person who is helpful. the GS500 is one such bike - Honda 919 and Wrist Twisters is another.
Magic bike only appreciated by those who have nothing to compensate for. That is why this is the best forum. PLUS, it is obvious noone takes themselves too seriously and so we all have some fun and it shows to those who join and then join in on the light hearted banter.
