Title: Another 'Noise' Thread
Post by: kg1709 on November 14, 2011, 12:09:15 PM
Hi Guys,

I've noticed the bike getting noisier over the past few weeks, at idle, which goes away when above 2500 RPM. Makes a knocking sound, rhythmically, and sounds a little like a diesel!

Bike has covered 9K miles overall is restricted, and is a 2004. Have been researching the usual suspects, e.g. cam ends (which I'm told are fitted with the shims) and when I got it serviced recently, I asked the mechanic to take a look.

Everything else e.g. valve clearances were OK, so only other possible obvious culprit was the cam chain tensioner, which has been replaced but to no effect. Mechanic wants the bike for some further time to fully inspect the engine, says it sounds like bottom of the engine now!

Obviously this is going to cost, so my question is, should I just live with it assuming that no damage is being done and accept that these bikes with their older technology engines are just prone to rattle a bit?
