Title: GS500 clutch side shift linkage
Post by: burning1 on November 24, 2011, 02:24:51 PM
Posted in a new thread for posterity. Here's a series of pictures from the clutch side of a 93 GS500E engine. AFAIK, there have been no changes to the linkage since then.

These photos may assist in the re-assembly of the GS500 linkage system. OEM manual is the best bet, so refer to that first if it's available. Consider this a supplement to the official guide.

Please note that the OEM service manual specifies Thread Lock "1342" (part number 99000-32050) for all the fasteners used in the linkage. The screw that holds the shift star to the shift drum gets Thread Lock Super "1303" (part 99000-32030,) but removing this screw shouldn't be necessary for normal service.

BTW, the silver bits at the bottom of the case are pieces of a shattered piston. When using this guide, it's advisable not to install piston as shown.

Oh bugger I missed the not to install the piston as shown post. I wondered why it started rattling and then stopped.
