Title: Broken front fender...how to replace (compatibility)
Post by: ntouran on November 26, 2011, 10:22:30 PM
Dude ran into me at 1 mph after the light turned green. I went straight, he was coming from the opposite side and turned left, into me, with my horn on. Anyway, bike went down, brake lever and handlebar all bent, signal generator cover scraped up, mirror shattered, foot pedal popped off, and front fender cracked. Could be worse!

I'm in Seattle and discovered Bent Bike  (http://bentbikemotorcycles.com/)in Lynnwood thanks to the appraisal guy who came out for insurance. That place is awesome, but is kind of eerie due to the motorcycle parts graveyard. Anyway, I got the brake lever and handlebars for like nothing compared to the OEM.

So the question is, how to replace the fender. I find a few on Ebay for <$200 (stupid oem) but am unsure about which years fit my model (mine's a '97 GS500E). You guys know what fits? Or have a black one handy?

Also, maybe now's a good time to check that front brake line leak. Where's it coming from?! Thanks!

Well, you COULD come to the Bike Cave in West Seattle and do it all there.  :icon_lol:
Got everything you need. Most of what you would ever need you can find from the West Seattle GS500 Club.

All GS fenders are compatible.

The ONLY difference is older ones have a hole for the rubber speedo cable guide and some have the 2 holes for the mud flap. If you get a newer fender, you might have to drill those holes if you need them.

Got a couple fenders. Pegs & other stuff, too.

You could do the ultimate frugal thing, and dremel down the fender so that it's round but shorter. I hope the insurance check is a fat one.

I'd try that except it's broken in half by the forks. I'm kind of picking it up in the first pic. I ordered a good one for $44 with shipping. Not too shabby. Next step: signal generator cover. Just the round plastic thing. Anyone want to part with theirs?
