Title: The bike is alive...sort of
Post by: ninja_steve on November 29, 2011, 08:29:38 PM
I got the nasty carbs cleaned out this evening and the bike fired right up.  Unfortunately, the left cylinder is not firing.  I swapped the coil from the parts bike but am still not getting gas to drain from the left carb.  I am fresh out of triple a's so the multimeter is dead.

The bike did not seem to get any spark to the left coil with either one I tried; the right one zapped me just fine.

Any ideas?

I dunno what's wrong, but... if you're not getting any gas to drain from the left carb, why does it matter whether you're getting spark? Spark is no good if the bowl's dry...

Good point.  I wonder if the vacuum cap on the left carb has a breach.  The right carb that has the line from the petcock seems fine.  Any other ideas for the carb?  I have cleaned it twice already.

Stuck float?

If you aren't getting spark on one side, check the plugs as well. If that's not it either, check the ignition pick ups on the right side of the engine case.

The float was absolutely stuck.  I cleaned it out and huzzah; gas and a running bike.  I pulled the plug on the right cylinder and the bike stayed running so I guess the left coil is working.

The bike runs like total crap right now.  I need to get the fuel/air mixture set right and then set the idle.  The airbox is a real pain the butt to work with so I plan to get some pods and rejet if necessary.

Once running I will need to sort out the fiddly electronic issues like the front brake light and the blinker fiasco.

Thanks for all the help thus far!
