Title: Death trap or?
Post by: A.Milos on December 05, 2011, 02:15:25 AM
So after giving my bike a wash, prior to garaging it for a few weeks I decided to experiment with dabbing some tyre shine around the sidewall. Error! Now I've got a centimetre of slick on each side.

Anyone made this mistake before? I'm assuming it will fade eventually. And failing that I'll probably score it up with some emery cloth or something.

Now to continue feeling stupid.

Every can of that stuff I have ever seen states that its not to be used on motorcycle tyres  :dunno_black:

Get on some sand or dirt road and try some power slides.

I watched a guy at work use a spray can and spray it on his car tires. I thought, how dangerous would that be trying to put on motorcycle tires. You would need to spray on a cloth then gently wipe cloth on side of tire. Safer to leave alone.Unless bike was for show there would seem no real point to make small side walls all black.

I actually did my scooter tires.....but carefully on the sidewall only, not on the tread....allowing for a 45 degree lean angle......nothing bad happened....

But it is not really a good idea..

wash the bike again, scrub the tires, the shine stuff will go away. i've seen people do this and I just thought "WHY?!"

haha that was actually the very First topic discussed in my motorcycle training course when we got to the section on turning, tires etc etc.

It is NEVER to be done on a ridden motorcycle.  :thumb:

Haha, yes, I know that now : (

I'll be riding around very carefully for a while, until I scrub and then sand it away. Does anyone here clean the release agent off new tires tyres when they're fitted? It reminds me of that same awkwardness.
