Title: Regreasing up Bearings Q?
Post by: Tombstones81 on December 09, 2011, 01:15:36 PM
Since I am finally on the reassembly step next Friday, need to ask this.

Regreasing bearings.
Degrease them first with my coleman fuel that I have been using to clean the bike?
and then regrease them really well once dry and clean?

asking because some got a little dirty in the tear down process and need to be cleaned up.
I Def. do not want any particles of dirt inside there.

Not sure whats a safe way to clean them so im here askin first :)

thanks

Fresh grease is always a good idea.

I usually use kerosene but Coleman fuel won't hurt bearings.
Just be aware of the fire risk with open containers of fuel about.

Pat bearings dry with rags. Do not spin them with compressed air.
Inspect for wear and corrosion.

Yeah i HAD Kerosene, small plastic containers but I was running low and bought the tin can of what I thought was the same thing.
ended up not being the same but it worked alot better.

Plan to use some fresh grease on pretty much Everything.

Just wanted to make certain that the fuel wouldnt hurt anything.

thanks

Just curious - what bearings are you referring to? Usually I replace wheel bearings but grease all others.
