Hey all!
I am pleased to announce I picked up a 1990 GS500E with 14,400 miles yesterday! I've been commuting on my Vespa for the past 5 years in NYC and lately I couldn't deal with all the potholes, torn up roads, etc in the city with its small wheels and inadequate suspension. I found a 1990 GS500E in craigslist from a dealer for $2000.00. It was a bit high for the model/year, but it was less then double for what I sold my Vespa for so I didn't have a problem. This ride is perfect for the city! It's lightweight, nimble, agile and has enough power to get through anything, but not overpowering to lose control. I checked out Pablo's GS page and thinking of progressive suspension. I also found a rear rack and topcase (man, it was difficult to find a rack for 1990). Any other popular mods? The Suzuki will be my commuter bike, I have a Versys for everything else :)

Really clean for a 1990...nice find!
I guess the thing looks new.
Yeah, I did a close inspection and no rust, dirt, grime, etc. anywhere! I hope I can keep the looks up, cause it doesn't look like a 21 year old bike!

Of course it doesn't, because it has been prettied up and detailed. Eg. no way the exhaust headers are pristine back after 21 years. The wonders of some paint.
Anyways. Welcome to the nut house and the beginning of the obsession.

Ez,
The white wheels & silver frame give it a clean look. I read that the 89 to 96 models produced 38kw of power. In comparison to the later models with 34.3kw.
Good find...
I picked up a 1998 that doesn't look half as good! Great find! Now I have to go find some paint to make mine less jealous!
Hey congrats, man. :)
I have a 1991 GS500E that is also gorgeous.
Take good care of it and it will stay that way.
And I believe that a gorgeous bike in beautiful condition is worth $2000, even when it is 20 years old.
That's why its worth a premium -- because it was taken care of by someone who takes care of a machine.
Good deal and good buy.
Best wishes,
Trwhouse

WOW that is beautiful and in really nice shape. The price is a little high but they have done some work to it and should give you joy for years to come
Congrats on the new bike, it is definitely a nice looking one.
