Title: help with fast idle when stopped
Post by: exacto on December 18, 2011, 12:15:00 AM
So i went on a ride with my 01 gs500 and everything was perfect till about an hour into the ride. Sometimes when i came to stop and pulled in the clutch my idle would stay at about 3,000-4,000 and slowly drop back down to 1,200(set normal). I found out that this would only happen if i pulled in the clutch when still at above 4,000 rpm, but if i coasted in gear till i reached around 2,000 it wouldn't happen, ...What gives???

does anyone else have this happen?

My first thought was an air leak around the carbs, but it could be a gummed up slide / needle, throttle cable, etc too.

This is a common problem. There is an FAQ thread with suggestions on how to fix it:
