Post by: Dorianfes on November 29, 2003, 11:43:05 PM
i know a lot has been posted about htese windscreens but i still cant find what the difference really is between the f-18 and f-16 windsdcreens.  i can't decide between one of these or one of these:

Ashman started a thread on Nov 13th about the F18 where it did not exactly get rave reviews except for looking "cool" (Whatever that means)
F15 was favourably mentioned. Kerry has a NC Plexistar 11 and I have a slipstreamer Turbo which are both very good large type screens. I have also seen favourable comment about the M&P "Gazelle" see
www.mandp.co.uk the gazelle is a small "fly" screen.

I'm not trying to be a pain, just to make sure the info comes across clearly.

I have a National Cycle Plexistar II (as in 'two').  See it mounted on my '99 GS500E at http://www.bbburma.net/Plexistar2.htm.

EDIT: Changed link from sisna.com to bbburma.net

Kerry, sorry about the 11/II.

I think this thread needs input from one of the sporty small screen types now.

One unexpected benefit I have discovered with a big screen is that it reflects my indicator lights so that I can see them whilst looking ahead. I have to admit a big tendency to forget to cancell the signal after making a turn and this has cracked the problem.

Yeah don't buy it, the damn things useless. Its just tall enough where you'll have your chest down on the tank metal to jacket. Unless your neck works diff from mine, you can't see. Plus it makes this sheer off the top that shakes your helmet. Almost better off w/ out it
BOOO! F-18!

I feel compelled to reply to this thread, cause I just installed an f-16 and I swear that I CAN feel the difference.  Even with the tank bag on, I can lean in and get a slip-stream over my helmet (and I'm 6'3").  I will admit that sitting upright it does little but keep the wind off my jacket zipper.

personally, I haven't experienced the helmet shaking that ashman has... hmm.. maybe your neck really does work differently .. haha jk

anyway.. if good wind protection is your priority, get something else, if you want a little bit of wind protection and a sporty look for your bike, I say go for it.

nothing personal, ash

NO big deal, I agree I did get a slip stream action over my helmet. But I cant ride like that for long at all and I dont know how anyone could.

I've got the Suzuki sport fairing, about the same size as the VTLion's F16, I think.  I have a short superslab commute (like 5 miles), and if it is raining and there's not much traffic, then I can lay on the tank for most of the commute.  I sit up every minute for about 5 seconds, just to stretch, then I hunker down again.  Despite the rain, I'm pretty dry at the other end.  However, this doesn't work in the dark or in traffic, and I don't think I could keep it up for more than 10 minutes.
