I have extra frame with title, so that is not an issue. Have extra head and jugs. I think I'll get it.
I have a 1989 Gs 500e for sale as a parts bike i have an affidavit of sale from the auction it was bought from, i bought this planning to rebuild the carbs and get it running but unfortunately that wasn't the issue, it has low compression 90 psi on both sides (should be around 150) fires over but doesnt run due to this. tank is yellow, rims are white and frame is grey. has small dent. plastics are original. call or text 360-451-2027 Jerrod.

Called Seller:
OK - I'm getting it. Has 89 clip ons (I know I can sell those!) Low compression - he did oil test on engine and PSI went from 90 to 140 so its rings. Only tiny dent in tank so I'll have a tank for sale cheap. I'll part out everything but the engine and carbs.
He does dirt bikes so he talks like he knows what up with the bike except he said carb jets for the GS500 were hard to get (guess he didn't know about GStwins!)
I think I already sold the clip-ons.
I'll post pix next week as everything goes up for sale except the engine & carbs.
Hope you saw this post: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=58704.0 Good luck on your purchase :thumb:

Saw it. Local MOTOcross guy. Called him. Talks all the right terms, explained bought at impound auction and has all paperwork. Title available of I need it. It is legitimate.
Got it home.
Legal paperwork from police impound auction - notarized.
now to start on the parts.
Will start a new thread as parts get ready to sell. You can PM me if you're looking for something.
Bars: sold.
Carbs & Engine: I keep.
No instruments.
Really,
I think you need to talk to someone about your addiction :icon_lol:
Mary
I just want a running vehicle.
Rather than start a new thread - found something new for this parts whore to jump on in the Seattle area.....
"all plastics, gas tank, good seat, both rims with good tires, both fenders, (2) swingarms, box of nuts and bolts, (2) boxes of misc parts. 91 carbs, no frame, but I do have a scrap 91 engine that can go too, if you want it."
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/mcy/2795702978.html
(Lord only knows what I will buy when GStwins goes down again. Last weekend I bought the parts bike because I had no GStwins to keep me busy!)
Adidas - you may be better off saying what you wont buy ... :icon_twisted:
Why you're not near me is one of those universe's cruel jokes.
Cool.
Buddha.
Going for it. Complete set of 2004 plastics, tank (painted flat black - wouldn't you know), wheels, boxes-o-parts, 91 engine, carbs $300.
Damn I wish I COULD FIND A DEAL LIKE THAT :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:
Down in Fl everyone wants a trillion dollars for crap
This is very rare to find these last 2 deals here. The GS500 is not as common in the Seattle area. However, no one has ever spoken bad about it - many said they used to have one.
Seems the GA, VA areas have lots of deals. Then that red/pink bike in CA.
Guy said his kid had the 91 GS. Engine lost compression so bought 2004 bike for parts. Put 2004 engine and stuff in the 91 frame. So selling the 91 engine & carbs, 2004 plastics, tank and seat. My guess is the 2004 had a front end crash as no forks and scratch on front wheel. No frame so frame was probably toast. Anyway, I think still a good deal. Don't know condition of all plastics, but should be good as painters at a minimum.
Man I wish you didn't live entirely across the country. I'd be hitting you up for so many parts.
(I'll more than likely be getting with you soon about those jets, trying to narrow down this one cylinder/high idle issue right now)
SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
2 swing arms
91 Engine (needs minor fixes)
newer carbs!
2 air boxes
Newer rear shock
LOTS of assorted parts in 2 boxes (I have no idea what - but a LOT of GS stuff!)
Wiring harness for 2004
Rear fender (fenderectomy'd)
"F" tank and all fairings & tail plastics, headlight assembly and tail light (ugh - painted flat black)(no key, gotta wrench off the gas cap, still has some gas in it and the tank fuel valve))
Gauges
2004 Front and rear wheels with brake rotors
"F" seat
Front fender
Brake calipers with pretty good pads
And I had to keep from jumping for joy when he handed me.....

What am I going to do with all this stuff, last weeks score on a parts bike and all the other stuff I have?

Did you happen to get any extra carb boots? I'm hunting both sides, but specifically, the carb to manifold boots.
Oh yea. 2 pair at least. I have to check the sizes - I think one set old, one set new as I understand the sizes from the carbs changed.
I'll check when I unload tomorrow and give you first dibs on them.
Do you need them for old or new carbs? (In case I see a difference as I do have a pile of old and new carbs now so I can measure them.)
I believe they came off of a 90, and I put them on my 96. I can always snap a picture to verify.
I checked fitting on old and new carbs and it seems the carb to engine boots are the same. Compared and airbox boots on old carbs is a little larger than new carbs. So I can spare a pair. I need one pair to put back on the engine that came with the rest of the parts today. What are they worth? I don't know right now.
Can't help it - gotta brag a little about this find - SCORE!

No problem.
And wow! That's quite the score!
Carb to manifold seems same for any year (maybe someone knows exactly if there is a difference). Got 4 of those.
Extra new airbox, but airbox to carb boot is different from 89-00 and 2001+
Noticed wiring harness is complete - all relays and the CDI! Oil cooler, good seats (old and new), side & center stands, old style gauges, 2 new timing pickups, perfect gauge bracket with the blue cap and so much more. A really rare find!
No dents in tank, just a crappy black rattle can spray job. Gotta go break open the gas cap. I got so many ignition sets, one of thje keys just might fit (yes, I need to sell some of those ignitipn/gascap/seatlock sets)
Seems he put the 2004 engine in the 1991 frame. Changed pickup to the 1991 pickup and also used the old carbs so he didn't have to change the wiring harness.
Excellent score Adidas, congrats!! I'd love to find a set of black wheels locally cheap. Was the yellow tank part of the deal or is that from previous hoarding??
-Jessie
Yellow tank was last week's parts bike. Still have to get the rest of it out of the car. All that and the bike frame+engine were all in the back of my CRV. Nearly 2 complete bikes (in pieces) in my car. I don't know how I did it. Gotta start selling off what I don't need.
Too bad you're not close. I now have 2 sets of extra black wheels and I think 3 sets of white.
Adidas...I just wanted to let you know that you know that you've got a problem.
That's all. We still love you anyway though. Where else would we get all our parts if it weren't for you? Hahaha! :icon_lol:
Pretty soon you'll have the used GS500 parts market cornered...
this makes me happy to be the East coast parts whore! i don't have to worry about you coming over here and getting ALL the good finds!!
the joke around here lately is everyone calling me Mike, from American Pickers. 'Cause every time I see a dusty gs5 in someone's garage my pants get tight haha

Does that mean I have taker when I clean out my bike barn?? ;)

Hey Adidas do you have the headlight faring bracket. I noticed when taking Flick apart it is slgihtly bent.
Mary
I have all brackets for the complete fairing (and a fairing painted fugley black)
Point me to which bracket and left or right side.
Its the center one that holds the headlight, windscreen, front fairing.
I'll pull up a parts fische latter tonight and show specifically.
Mary
The whomping big arse steel thing that also bolts to the steering column? Mirrors also bolt to it?
Got just one - came with parts bike last week.
Like this?

This part number?
BRACE, COWLING 94510-01D00-ENM 1 $132.32
Yup, that would be the one. Guess it got bent when one of my neighbors knocked Flick over! How much you want for it?
Mary
Postage and a few bucks. I'll figure postage Monday. I have to "car aka CAGE it" because I have 3 gas tanks to ship and parts for a few other people.
Oh, and a couple of those plastic clips pretty please with sugar on top. I grabbed some plastic weld and am going to try and take a washer to recreate the circle for the plastic thing to go through.

set of 89 clip ons minus the bars
Are these available? I'd definitely be interested....btw, technically they're not clip ons.
I'm kidding! :D

OK - no clip on bars (just night clubs and restaurants that serve beer  ). But I do have a clip on seat, clip on front wheel, clip on frame, clip on gas tank, clip on chain and a clip on fender. :flipoff:
I have to inventory everything because.....
The set that came has a broken TAP in one screw hole. Can't get it out - it is crooked! (It is the USA 1989 set)
If you're putting on an 89-00 bike, I have plenty of the Euro type 2 clips.
I think the right clipo would work fine with one screw holding in the bar. If you want to use it as is or try removing the broken tap, I can give you a deal and will throw in a pair of the Euro type-2 clips.
Someone might have a USA 1989 right clip in their parts bin.
I have plenty of top plates and Euro type-2 clips. I will have to inventory to see what I have left of the 1989 clips and Euro type 1 because I need to keep 2 sets for Phenix and Phenix #2.
Found I have a few standard bar top plates. Quite a few complete lock/gascap/seatlock sets. A few side stands (old and new). ONE ONLY center stand left. Plastics & headlight for "F" painted fugley black. All kinds of brackets, springs, axles, battery boxes, etc. A few triples with good bearings. I think a KAT front end triple and couple sets of bars. Knuckles, 1 KAT knuckle, dog bones, wheels (2 never used white front rims) and other stuff. Trying to sort things now so I can get to work on Phenix.
UPDATE: I do have one set of 1989 USA clips available. That is in addition to the set with one broken tap in a hole.
MARY: Got your two black clips for the fairing bottom. Will let you know shipping cost tomorrow.
adidas - I got random 89 handlebar parts, when I can find em ... you wanna sell the ones wiht the broken tap ... I may just use something else ... PM with price, in case any one else hasn't dibs on it.
Cool.
Buddha.
OK, defective set being traded to Buddha.
