Title: Holla!!
Post by: KYRRNCO on January 18, 2012, 03:00:58 PM
So today I was joking around with one of my co-workers, and asked if she wanted to buy my 07 500F. To my surprise she said soon as her tax returns came in, that she would give me the cash. So, 14 emails later, she has officially commited to paying $2500 for my bike. I have referred her to this webiste to learn more about this machine.

I am moving on to a 2003 GSXR 600 40th Anniversary Edition with polished wheels, frame sliders, yoshi exhaust and new rubber that I have been eye balling for about 6 months now. I will still be stalking this website though, as I hope to someday own both the GSXR and a project 500. Thank you all for your knowledge, help and for giving me ideas on ways to spend money.

Best of luck to everybody and be safe.

Grats. Hope you take it easy for the first few miles on your gixer. It will feel like you are gonna fall off the back every time you accelerate compared to the humble GS. You got any pics of your soon to be new ride?

Aah, I still remember that feeling from when I pulled out of the dealerships parking lot and turned onto the road! It was amazing haha, and that was 'just a 600' after I had 15k+ miles of experience, imagine those guys who start out on a gsxr1000 as a first bike...

Yeh i am glad we have laws here that require you start riding on a small displacement bike for at least a year before you are allowed to ride litre bikes. Even after a year I still a litre bike would be too much unless it is a twin. I can remember the first time I rode the Duc and accelerated even at half throttle and I was like "Woah!"

My DL1000 was my second bike after putting only 5k miles on a KLR650. The power wasn't an issue for me, it was more the size and weight of it. I'm pretty stout but I'm also only about 5'11 or 6'0 with a 29" inseam. Not a good combo on a bike with a 34.5" seat height.

Yet...somehow even though the KLR650 (1988) and DL were almost identical in weight, the KLR650 was worlds apart in terms of handling, especially off the bike.

Now, would I recommend someone start off on a big hunk of bike like the DL1000? Hell no! In some ways, especially if someone isn't accustomed to clutch/gear changing...the GS500 is too much bike. For a complete newbie I'd really recommend a 250 like the Ninja. They're cheaper to buy and won't get away from you as easily.

Funny you say that. My Duc is easier to wheel around and feels lighter to push than my GS even thought the Duc is heavier. (189kgs vs 173kgs). I suppose that is the difference between a wet clutch and a dry. No friction when free wheeling especially when the bike is cold.

My XB was easier to move around and easier to ride than the GS(power aside). That bike was tiny, and the seat to handlebar reach was way shorter.

My first bike when I was 17 was an 83 Yamaha XT550 dual sport, that bike was massive for my 5'7, 145lb self. The power was manageable, but I crashed that bike all the time, haha. I did fine on the road, but I learned how to ride it offroad, then would occasionally pull off in new housing developments that looked like fun, and that poor bike fell over a number of times. It's still lighter than a sportbike, but it's nothing like a modern sportbike, and with how tall it was it was a nightmare to pick back up. Still, the worst I ever did to it was break a turn signal, and I just taped it back together, problem solved. I sold that bike to my cousin for $200 when I bought the ex250 though, wish I still had it!

No pictures yet. I ran across a 06 CBR-RR 600 last night. I'm still kinda set on GSXR though, just because I've been pretty impressed with Suzuki so far. Anybody have any opinions on the 03 GSXR? Likes or Dislikes? Common issues?

I also will be selling a KAT 600 shock and a Brand New Lunch Box probably in a week or two. I told the buyer that I will thow it in with the bike, but she hasn't given me a final answer yet.

I love the 04-05 gsxrs, thats the model id go for if i was buying one. I have a huge thing for the 03-06 600rrs, the 03-04 600rr motor wasnt supposed to be too street friendly, but thatt bike is by far the sexiest looking sportbike made in the past 10 years(in my opinion).
