Title: 1989 GS500E for Sale MUST GO! Need the $ for maternity leave :-(
Post by: micahra on January 20, 2012, 02:18:14 PM
Sorry for cutting and pasting this from my Ebay auction I had up, but I am now caring for my week old newborn daughter (in other words, no longer pregnant, haha) and I have to do most things one-handed. >.>

I am located in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

I would like $1400 for this bike, but will entertain reasonable offers.

1989 Suzuki GS500E - For sale due to (my) pregnancy.
I'm offering up for auction my dream bike, my 1989 GS500E. Way back when I was 18 and this bike came out, I framed a picture out of a MC mag and hung it on my wall, vowing to own it one day. 12 years later I did, and I've loved her ever since.
The 1989 is the only year of this model, and even of the newer "F" line, to have the prized clip-on handlebars. Both handlebars are straight.
In 2002, thanks to a mechanic error (not replacing the lifters correctly and all hell broke loose) I had to replace the engine. I purchased and installed a newer engine from an engine dealer. At that time, I completely restored the entire bike, and had it custom painted professionally with Audi/VW Tornado Red and I repainted the frame VW silver.

The only major trauma this bike has withstood in its years is when a truck backed into it in 2004 while it was parked. Handlebars were bent, plastics were cracked, and the muffler was damaged. No frame damage was sustained. All damaged things were repaired/replaced, though, and I have kept one of the tail plastics on because Id rather keep the replacement safe, haha!

Some points of note:
•   Well maintained over my entire ownership of 11 years
•   Often sole vehicle, but I've lived mostly in a city where I don't accrue many miles on anything.
•   Originally a California bike, it's spent 6 years in New Orleans where it's been parked under shelter and never seen water higher then the bottom of a tire (3inches).
•   I have all paperwork dating back from the first registration to it's original owner (I'm the 3rd), including sales slip from the new engine, verifying engine #.
•   Custom painted only because I wanted higher visibility then the original black, this bike has never been crashed.
•   Tires are newer and have exc/good tread.
•   Stage three jet kit properly installed by a dealer and performance place, retuned for commuting more recently.
•   Previous owner put in progressive (stiffer) fork springs for improved handling.   Only things needing fixing:
•   Needs fork seals.
•   Will need a new chain soon, on last adjustment line now and rusty from lack of use over the last 6 months of my pregnancy..
