Did you lower the GS, or did she get taller?

I'm not normally into that style of exhaust, but it looks great on the gs! Was it a custom job?

Nope, lowered it!

Kat shock raised it 1.5 inches.

Bought a 2.5 inch lowering links, and lowered from to top of bars. Will lower front till its level once the 89 clip-ons are in from adisas guy!

Exhaust thread. Great, cheap, alternative to an expensive exhaust, and it sounds GREAT!

Looks OK to me! Remember the bars will be lower, so wait until they get there.
Tracking no: 9102150134711137001034
Mailed out the 17th then we got hit with all the ice and snow. It will get there. Be patient.

I looked, and I think that even though their going to be about a quarter inch lower, their going to be closer to you.

The renthal bars I have now are almost straight, and only have a 1 inch rise over the risers.

The stock 89 bars should be more angled towards you, and be just slightly lower, and if I'm wrong, actually higher than the renthal bars.

I'm patient pat! I'm excited, and with a horrible weekend (friend got shot in the head) I HAD to tinker on something. Tomorrow im going to degrease the girl and give her a nice bath. Wrenching on her today showed me how much grime I had missed!

BTW, how much are your stainless chain guards?

I DEFIANTLY cant afford it right now, just dropped 400 bucks on a suit for interviews, but if you can, stick it in a dark corner for me for when I can. I would LOVE to have the added protection of steel.

I'll always have the SS guards available. Just ordered another 30. First batch of 20 is sold out! $30 +$15 p&h, $25 p&h to Canada. Multiple orders get discount on shipping.

With the Euro bars you have coming, your hands are a little closer and down so she may not need the front lowered. Might make her lean forward too much. Put them on, then decide.

Here's the photo I was looking for the shows standard bars versus the Euro ones you're getting. Photo of Suzi before and after I changed the bars. Outline is stock bars. Photo background is with the Euro clip-ons.

Forget the bike, I think we need to see some more photos of your girl.  :icon_mrgreen:

Seriously though. You have lowered the GS so now what are you gonna ride?

Im going to ride it? lol.

It was raised about 2 inches from stock w/ the rear shock and front raised.

2.5 inch lowering links, its almost an inch lower than stock. Actually, I like how it handles much more than raised. More confidence inspiring.

No, I lowered it to get it back to the correct suspension geometry, and figured while i'm doing it, why not make it slightly lower for her?

The bike?

Waiting for my box of goodies to get here from washington, than I'm stripping her down to her skivvies, slapping her on a sexy garter (crash bars), putting her in pigtails (clipon handlebars), and giving her a nice headlight.

;)

Than more pics of steph on it!

Heres one to hold you back, back when it was raised. She could barely touch the ground with it leaning. shes 4'11

I love my soon-to-be-wife!

BTW, we signed the papers for a house two days ago.

It has a two car garage/ two bike + workshop garage!!

Well, that's nice an all.. from the pictures, didnt look like she needed it, but whatever gets you through the weekend.

4'11? Mine's not much taller 5'1 (I'm 6'2). I've been married 19 years. The "petite" ones are best. It's true what they say "good things come in small packages"  ;) ;) :thumb:

Nope, lowered it!

Kat shock raised it 1.5 inches.

Nice to see her on a bike, and obviously enjoying it!

I'm sorry to say what I'm about to say... Won't take it personally if you ignore the advise.

I would strongly recommend against installing a Kat shock on a bike intended for a 115lb rider - it's way too stiff, which is going to severely compromise handling and comfort. I ran one for a while, had it professionally tuned, and it was still way too stiff for me.

The spring on those shocks is better suited to a 230lb rider. It raised the rear end 1.5 inches not because it's any longer than stock, but because it probably had so much pre-load dialed in that the suspension is topped out even with her aboard. Personally, I'd advise you to take an R6 shock to a suspension shop and have the right spring installed for her weight. If nothing else, revert to the stock shock - it's not an absolutely terrible unit, and it's probably sprung okay for her weight - certainly better than the Kat shock installed now.

FWIW, the shock is still quite desirable to heavier riders. I know a number of people in the 200+lb range on GS500s. Just suggesting ways to make the bike better for her. :)

Anyway, good luck! She's lucky to have someone who obviously cares about her and is looking to make sure she gets a good bike with the right upgrades to be safe and comfortable.

Nice work with the bike...and I agree with the "good things in small packages" comment from Mister...my wifey is 5'3, and she was the "tall one" in her family (aunt is 4'11)...even her dad is 5'7...so I always feel pretty big around her family...(I'm 5'11 ~ 180cm)

My daughter is nearly the same size as you wifey-to-be (5')...and was pretty excited to be able to "touch" this year at the bike show...

My wifey may not want to ride, but you can tell from my daughters face that she definitely wants to be my riding buddy!!

Later.

So, tall guys and short gals is the topic now?  Here's a 60 year old pic of 6'2 me, 5'2 wife, and daughter.  No newer photos available!   :icon_lol:
