Title: Exhaust
Post by: deets on January 27, 2012, 09:03:15 PM
Hi new to forum and bike riding I have gs 500f 2010 new March 2011 and have clocked up 19,000 K's, I come off my P's in June this year and have made up my mind to keep her for another year. But would like to improve the bike's performance in the mid range to give bit more pull in 45k corners... can you suggest mechanic that could supply and fit exhaust, filter and re jet I live Northmead  Sydney.
some bike shops I have talked to say its not worth it and to upgrade, but I think that I can still improve my riding skills on this bike...?

Hi and welcome, first up your better off leaving the engine/exhaust as is till you upgrade, my k3 is stock air box/engine, the best advice would be to upgrade your suspension but since your bike is near new have a good think before you do. Because mine is an 03 I've put straight rate sonic springs and the handling has improved dramatically. These bikes aren't untapped powerhouses, this is what your next bike is for but the GS is a perfect stepping stone. Hope this helps.

Unless you intend to keep the bike, leave it alone.

What issues are you having in 45kph corners? And what gear are you having these issues in?

Also... got a pic of your bike to share so we can see it?

Hi Guy's thanks for the input, Group ride last Sunday to O'connell NSW via bells line and used 3rd and 4th and kepped up the revs helped heaps had no trouble keeping up with the group...in the corners.  Ourea like the look of your exhaust, did you take your exhaust and jet kit to your mechanic or did they supply jet kit? what model GSX rear shock did you install yourself

Thanks mate. I purchased the exhaust separately and took it to the mechanics, they supplied the jet kit.
I used a '96 GSX-600 katana rear shock (any katana 600 rear shock in good condition will work). It provides a stiffer spring, allows rebound damping and spring preload adjustments.
Yes I did install it myself. All you need is a shifter and a socket wrench, unbolt the old one put the new one in. Because the GSX shock lifts the back end 1/2 - 3/4 inch higher, you will need to re-tension the chain as it will be fairly loose.

On a different note, admins!... I tried typing the sentence "unbolt_the_old_one_and_bolt_the_new_one_in" and it replaces it with this... " unbolt the old one and You win! the new one in" wtf?  :technical:

You found the secret word!
