Title: Front Sprocket problem
Post by: Panda on January 29, 2012, 04:28:15 AM
Hi guys. I've been a long time read and now my first post. I'll introduce myself later on tonight.
Right after looking around for several months for a run around/all weather bike, i found a gem of a 93 gs500e for £250 and snapped it up. 6 months tax and 9 months test, needs some abit of cosmetic work here and there but overall. bargain.
I've been using it daily for the last 2/3month,and its now needing a chain and sprocket kit. Purchased a set mid week and have now come to fit it(sunday), and have found that the new front sprocket doesnt have spacer/lip on the rear. Meaning that when the circlip is on, its all over the place. Have i got a front sprocket off another model?

Any help appreciated
cheers

Nope, only the newer e's and f's have the lip built in.

Stick the circlip and chain on, and itll center itself!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Thats now on and i've found a new problem, the new chain is 2 links longer then the old one. Will the wheel be able to go far enough back to account for the 2 links?

cheers

I'd say "no"  the chain has /needs a speific # of links....110  (Unless you changed the #of teeth on sprockets.....)

If the chain is too long, the axle will end up too far back in drop out, and there will be little/no room for adjust once the chain begins to wear.
