Title: Flasher Relay problem
Post by: Tombstones81 on February 03, 2012, 07:56:18 PM
Went and bought the Flasher Relay as I seen in this thread.
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=42477.0

bought the same one
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Tridon-Hazard-Warning-Flasher/_/N-9cjef?counter=0&itemIdentifier=6413_0_0_

but of course, my luck....

did I miss something or did I waste my money by assuming before checking?
how is that supposed to fit? lol

Your pic is a bit blurry, does the relay you are holding have 3 terminals?  It should have 2 and fit the stock wire harness plug.   Why are you swapping, did you install LED's?

it has 2
and I only have new LED turn signals (4) right now.
plan to upgrade everything eventually.

and this was only $10
1 of 2 options to make it work, so I went with it.

and which plug?
the small white one attaches to the bottom of the stock one.
but there is also a white female plug attached to that.
do I take that one off there if it even can be?
i didnt wanna try and break it if it isnt supposed to

Oh, I was looking at the relay, not the connector.  Don't have a bike in front of me to check at the moment.

I just did this last night, my relay is the same as yours, my connector has the 'L' type adjacent 2 plugs. Maybe someone changed your connector to use a different bikes relay? Just drill holes in the relay plug plates, cut off your stock connector, and solder/twist the wires in the hole.

its all good now.
2 stock rear and 2 LED front blinkers (which I had on before)
are now blinking regularly.

4 LEDs still wont but I am fine with that.

because as I posted somewhere before..
the blinkers I got are pretty dang small, so I prefer the longer, more noticeable stock ones on the back.

You can make the 3 pin TSR work with a little wiring. You will need to de-pin the original plug.
Orange wire is +12V, light blue is switched output from the relay to indicators. The third pin on your relay is earth, which you will have to add.

The problem with the LEDs is electricity flow, you will need to add resistors or a relay designed for LEDs for it to work. I'm sure there is a how to on this forum somewhere.

LEDs will either stay on all the time, because they draw very little current, or activate the fast flash circuit, depending on what style relay you have. I'm not sure whats on the GS.
