Title: Lets see your jackets
Post by: fraze11 on February 11, 2012, 02:54:28 PM
In the simiar spirit of the 'Lets see your helmet' thread I thought it would be cool to see what other people have for jackets and I haven't seen a thread like this yet? Might give me (and others) some ideas on a new jacket, plus we all love to look at pictures :D  I just picked this guy up at a motorcycle show last month for 99 bucks.  It has a removable inside liner, light armour in the elbows, shoulder and back and its a good heavy leather ... and it matches my bikes colours.  The second one is my everyday riding jacket similar specs as the new one, just a little plainer.

What's everyone else wearing?

I have an older Joe Rocket Speedmaster that I got off craigslist for $120.

I don't wear it much anymore, because I can't wear a backpack with it due to an obnoxiously large speed hump. It has largely been replaced by a Montana jacket from British Motorcycle Gear, which looks good on and off the bike.

Both jackets have full leather construction, zip into my overpants, have adequate ventilation, zip-out liners, and a full complement of CE rated elbow, shoulder, and back armor.

That Montana Jacket is SWEET!  And Fraze, I've got some JR GPX 2.0s gloves that would match either of those jackets really well!  If you're ever looking for a set, hit me up.  Lol.

Indeed. It was also as much as some members have paid for their bikes ($500). Still cheaper than the REV'IT Hawk that I was going to get before I found the Montana.

Yep, that was more than I paid for my bike.

Cortech RCX jacket new this fall replaces 10 year old red/black JR Atomic that was more faded than worn.  I'm keeping my JR Phoenix mesh for very hot days.

Recently purchased IS-33 helment is Anthracite, a bit darker than all my previous silver ones to match the new jacket.  :icon_lol:

Me too; the bike was free. lol It was hard to find a full leather jacket that had classic styling and a full armor package.

Bought this for $80 on a clearance rack. Bright colors increase visibility but it's hot in the summer and I'm not impressed with the build quality. Glad I didn't pay retail.

For my weekday commute I use a DriRider Climate Control 2 Jacket - has removable rain line and winter liner. Elbow and shoulder armor, front and back padding, adjustable arm and waste settings, two external and one internal pocket.

For weekend riding I use the Ricondi (http://www.ricondi.com.au/) Road Spec jacket - full armor in elbows and shoulders, back too. Leather is perforated and has some elasticized bits near the shoulder. Can be zippered into pants too. And has removable winter lining

Mister, I like this second jacket you have...How is it in warm weather?  Thats something I struggled with last season, in the summer where I live its regularly ~25 degrees during the day.  The new Jacket I bought has a good amount of air vents but I was curious;  Does that perforated leather allow for better air flow?

Oh hell yeah. Guys I ride with have normal leather and they swelter between stops. I can feel the air flowing through. Not as much as the mesh, but enough to keep me cool as the temps his 32 with 60% humidity in the day. Remember, this is for weekend riding. Starts getting warm sitting at traffic lights in the suburbs.

I wear this one most often, I got it on ebay for $20 brand new. Couldn't pass it up but it turned out to be a great jacket. The low collar is nice because I can wear it with a hooded sweatshirt, but unfortunately it lets a bit of cold air down the neck when it gets chilly. Cyclegear kills me with their clearance rack too, it seems like every time I go there I come home with another jacket. I've got 2 in my closet I've never even worn haha.

From the boys here for my b-day. When it is OMG hot I can take of the sleeves but takes away safety.

I got one of these for cooler weather riding. Man it smells good. Dianese Cage Pelle leather jacket -

My warmer weather jacket is the same as what Mister posted. The Dryrider mesh jackets make riding bearable in the Australian Summer.

Here is my new Shift summer jacket. It lets the wind in and ony cost me $169, when I bought it I upgraded to a CE approved back amour for a bit more protection only cost me $30 and I can use it in any jacket that has a zippable pocket for the back piece. Only down side is no rain liner so if it buckets down I'm wet.

We have no good shops around here to try gear on, so I've been buying the the steals off craig. Right now I have a mesh Alpine star sniper and a 1pc Teknic Violator suit;

I sold my Teknic leather jacket since it was a bit too small, next season I plan to scoop another to replace it.

So hot here in Houston that I typically wore only some elbow armor last summer.  Bday came around and was gifted with a Fly mesh jacket.  Seems okay, not as much airflow as I'd hoped for but well armored on elbows, forearms, back, shoulders, etc,....

On me or by itself, no.
Just tried but my lighting in my room and phones camera Sucks!

Pretty much looks exactly as photo'd.
but a little darker in the non meshed areas.
in the photos on the site they look like a dark blue / grey.

armor in the elbows, shoulders and back.
nice removable liner too, which isnt some thin garbage.
tons of zipper pockets. 4 outside 2 inside.

for only $70, its a friggin Steal!
no its not covered in name brand advertising, but im not one for that.

I wouldnt hesitate to suggest this to anyone, and def plan to buy another if i ever need one.

(edit)
funny
it actually makes u look more Beefed up, so to speak.
when I would ride to work, the kids would see me before I took it off and ask if I've been workin out lately.

(edited again)
sorry multi tasking hahaha

liner out in 90 degree weather, its just fine.
of course sitting still for long periods of time does get hot, but anything other then a Tshirt would.
and riding to work at night in 40 degree weather with the liner was no problem at all.
coldest I've rode to work last before I put the bike away to be worked on.

I also have a Joe Rocket mesh/armored jacket with a rainproof insert. I got the jacket and my helmet off CL for $50 - the jacket had never even been worn and the helmet was almost brand new. The Joe Rocket jacket I paid like $40 for, it is a lot better in the summer than my leather jacket with QUILTED lining! LOL

I also have a pair of SHIFT touring pants (textile). They're pretty nice but they don't quite fit (slightly too big). They're hand-me-downs so I can't really complain.

They called it distressed leather. I think a solid color leather would have been nicer, but I figured it would get a lot of use and this would look "Original" longer vs a sold color creasing and fading at wear spots and dirt and bugs....

It does seem quite well made, the armor is thick and very present yet it doesn't hamper movement. Best thing is that i don't look like a power ranger walking around in it when I'm off the bike.
