Title: Wrist Saver Options.
Post by: SS Adrenaline on February 13, 2012, 08:01:39 PM
Hey guys, I would like to know if qny of you have and used any weist savers like this:

What do you guys think of them and do you recommend something for longer riding that you use?

Thanks

I have one called a throttle rocker:

I love it. But it's probably a preference. Some old timer I met on the road told me they used to tape pencils to the throttle back in the day, which is probably where somebody got the idea to make these.

I have a crampbuster on my SV.  Better than nothing but not as nice as a real throttle lock.

I put an SV650 throttle tube on my GS500 for a shorter throw. My wrist is much happier, and Taarna feels like an entirely different bike. I rode a Yamaha XS750 with some kind of wrist saver gadget for a little while, and can't say I much cared for the gadget.

If you are riding around town the crampbuster will become annoying as it interferes with your throttle control as you keep going up and down the gears. ON a long open road it can be worthwhile. But when you get back in to town it's a hindrance as the throttle stays partially open while you are trying to brake, because your palm will not let it close all the way.

I don't bother using mine, even on long rides.

Spin it down a little for in town, or swap to a 1/5 turn throttle tube.  On my fz the cramp buster wide is fannnnnnntastic. Illiminates all the preassure from the thumb area, reduces strain and pain from engine vibrations to zero. Gripping the bars is no longer needed, and my shoulders / neck / back are more relaxed.

For a longer, higher speed trip, I will rotate the CB up a little, so more throttle is applied in the same hand position. It takes about two seconds (stopped or moving) to adjust either direction, and I don't ride the fz without it.

Remembering the gs's throttle barrel, I could almost grab a second grip full of rotation between city commuting and highway cruising. This CBwide was a godsend. It does take more adjusting with the gs's wide rotation throttle tube, but it makes an afternoon ride so much more enjoyable.

The drz needs too much fine throttle control in the woods, and I only put the CBwide on it for long dirt road trips. It is neither helpful nor fun for 2-10mph woods bashing. Otherwise, yes please !

As a newish rider, I was experiencing a lot of numbness from death grip on the throttle.  The throttle rocker, on longer trips, has eliminated that problem.  It was definitely worth every penny I spent on it.  I agree that it is unnecessary around town.

I get some discomfort even when riding on my short rural roads from mountain to mountain. I installed a sv throttle tube which helped some. This summer I'll be picking up a CB as well as this little jewel another member posted:

I like mine. Have had it pretty much since I got Flick. Was a good $5 investment. As others have stated I don't use it around town but on I-4 or the ride into work 70 on the 417. I have tendonitis in the right thumb and that helps a bit when riding all day! Worth the money IMHO.

Im amazed something like that is even made! (the link)
Enough going on while riding a bike, I sure as heck never want something to keep my throttle open except for my hand.
Personally WAYYY too dangerous for me!
If I had something like that and ran into trouble, my luck I would react but not push the throttle forward and end up wiping.

thanks for the throttlerocket link tho.
def. going to be on my To Buy list!

I would think any durable throttle lock would do.  I don't have one but my throttle is so light it doesn't tire me unless I ride two hours or more which I rarely do.  Best of luck with whatever you choose and let us know.
